I recently bought a cheap RDA from China. It has a strong plastic/metallic/strange smell/taste to it. I took out the coils and soaked it in water, but it didn't help. You can taste/smell it on the cap and deck without any coils/wick/firing. This has been a known problem for this particular RDA with some bad batches here and there. The machining is also pretty rough, so some residue may remain. I've heard soaking it in alcohol for up to 24 hrs or continuous blow torching could help. I don't have a very reliable blow torch, so I'd like to avoid that if possible. Also, the deck smells too, so no sense in ruining the o-rings and grommets. Also, I'm thinking boiling/baking the top cap first to see if that helps. Any suggestions on how to get rid of the taste/smell?

Yeah, get an IGO-L, or any dripper of your choice from an american vendor? Other than that, remove all plastics if possible and send as much sustained heat at it as you can.

No more China bro...it isn't worth it. It's not like ya save 3 figures...

lol IGO-L (Youde/UD) and most sub $50 drippers are manufactured in China....

Thanks everyone, I probably should've read your replies before trying myself. I ended up baking the cap at 500 degrees for 10 minutes (it didn't work but left a slight bronzed finish that looks pretty cool) while simultaneously using near-boiled water for the deck/base (which worked). I just filled a mug with hot water from a hot water heater ~200 degrees and let the pieces sit there until the water reached room temperature.
