I have rebuilt a coil head with a 4/5 wrap of 24 gauge kanthal, ohming out around .5. I get a burnt taste every once in a while, the first three rebuilds I pulled do to this and noticed that it wasn't the cotton that was burning, the legs of the coil, due to it not being non-resistance wire gets hot and creates a nasty taste. Is there anything I could do differently to avoid this with out using non-resistance wire

Hi cepak and welcome to ECF!

There are only two things you can do. One is to wrap a higher ohm coil so that it doesn't get as hot as quickly and make sure that you are vaping style doesn't let it get as hot. The other is o get some MR-R-NR wire. Fasttech sells them in various resistances.

@Kanger Banger: Welcome aboard as well. cepak was talking about non-resistance-resistance-non-resistance wire. It's where non-resistance wire is welded to the ends of resistance wire and used for the legs of the coil. Since the legs of the coil are then non-resistance, they don't heat up and burn the insulator at the bottom of the coil head.

Hope it helps and Happy vaping!
