Hoping for some help here with my new 510.
Does the harsh burn on my throat mean it is time to top off?
About how many drops to refill a 510 cart?
How do I know if I over-filled?
Should a new cart gurgle?
When I drop liquid on atomizer and draw it makes a sizzle sound for the 1st few puffs, is this normal?
Anything I can do about the leak between cart and atomizer, other than duct tape?:D

Thanks a million,
Tlynn

Drops are subjective to the filler and what could be left in it. Fill it up till it is very moist, but not pooling at the top. There should be no dryness noticeable. You will know if you overfill by the pooling at the top. A gurgle sound is a bit natural. Just liquid and air sloshing around. Some atomizers sizzle more than others. It is natural.
Duct tape works for more me ;) I dont think there is a way keep the leak from occuring, at least I have not been able to overcome that. I just wipe it with some paper towel and off i go. Hope this helps!

I've found the best way to fill practically any cart is to use a needle tip bottle. I have one that was intended as a percision oiler, but I'm going to order a kit like this one. You can find various examples by searching for "needle tip squeeze bottle" on google. With one of these, you can send the needle tip down to the bottom of the cart and then gently squeeze until the top of the filler becomes wet. Perfect control, total fill.

Probably, or it could be primer if a brand new atty. You generally should just pay attention to when vapor production and throat hit decreases, then top off, or better, refill (via syringe, etc) or swap carts.

About how many drops to refill a 510 cart?

Dropping from the top won't really do a good refill, without the 'straw mod' (search), or waiting a while, or inserting a dental pick, toothpick, something to allow air to escape from the bottom. You can certainly remove the poly fill, drip ~8 drops, re-instert the poly, then top off from the top, or just 'add a few drops,' or refill completely via syringe (or the 'precision oiler' pic someone posted), from the bottom of the cart up.

A fresh, never used blank 510 cart takes ~ .5ml of juice. Refills on used carts, depends, from .25ml on up in general.

    How do I know if I over-filled?

It'll pool over the top of the cart. You want the poly to *just* start saturating at the top, so if you press it, you'll get juice. Compare to an original filled cart for comparison. It may also leak/squeeze out when inserting the cart, if it's really overfull.

    Should a new cart gurgle?
usually a bit...but you may have also overfilled a bit, too. Mine usually gurgle for the first half dozen or more hits.

When I drop liquid on atomizer and draw it makes a sizzle sound for the 1st few puffs, is this normal?

Dunno, I don't usually drip, no need to on the 510, IMHO. If you've flooded the atty, it may gurgle but take longer, as well, it's flooded. A few drops should still give a bit of sound, just like a full cart. Someone with more experience dripping should answer this one..

Anything I can do about the leak between cart and atomizer, other than duct tape?:D

Huh, never had a problem with leakage, unless I grossly overfilled the cart, with liquid running down the side, then still stuffed it into the atty..

i took the cart "condom"and cut the bottom off you can then use it as a seal to help with the leaks.it also stops it from rolling off the table.

Skyward this is an excellent idea! To make sure I understand, do you then slide the little rubber ring you're left with over the outside of the 510 to cover where it's leaking?

Mine leaks where the atty meets the battery and it's very annoying. :-x But sometimes the atty gets pretty darn hot, so I hope it doesn't melt the "condom."

if your carts are leaking you can put a pair of tweezers in the top of the cart.... separate the tweezers a little so they are snug and put outward pressure on the cart.... get a lighter and quickly heat the top of the cart plastic and stretch out the cart with the tweezers. It will cool pretty instantly and you'll have a nice snug fit again.

even the factory joye carts will loosen up with frequent pulling for top offs.

i even use a lighter for random stragglers of fiber lol. you should see the melted tops on my carts. Keeping the diameter stretched out will keep them in service.

I don't think it would be a good idea to put that ring where the atty meets the battery... there are air holes there (which is why you have leakage) and those air holes are needed for vaping.

Mine don't leak though, well... sometimes just a little.

Mine leak a very tiny amount but since I am a chain smoker it adds up. I am constantly washing my hands. I don't want to accidentally pet my cat or rub my eye. I don't think it is juice leaking out but rather condensation because when I remove the cart there are moisture bubbles on the outside of the section that slides in the atomizer. I will try the cap condom but I am not happy about the way it will look. I have the Yeti, is it possible the carts are not as good as others?

I had wondered where that liquid came from and discovered the source when I took a cart apart... there's 3 pieces to them.

When liquid starts coming down the sides like you describe it means, or so I think, that there is too much in the liquid reservoir as it is overflowing and escaping by that route.

I wash and sanitize my carts. They were taking forever to dry, LOL. Finally discovered what was going on... water was in the liquid reservoir! So now, it's a snap to take them apart and get them dry.

The end of the mouthpiece is removable and then the reservoir is further inside and it is also removable. The modified paperclip is the tool of choice.

Aren't you the clever one? I love it -- I will do this. I think this is good even if one doesn't have a problem with leaks. It seems to me the fit between the cartridge and atomizer isn't the absolute tightest in this style cig.

And surfmonkey, I love that needle-tip bottle. Must have one of those, too.

I'm also thinking of all the cool cases I can use for all this parephrenalia. (I love cool boxes, cases, etc.) This is a very funny new habit.

Here in the states we have a cough drop brand called ' sucrets ' they come in a neat little tin that I rigged up to hold a 5 ml bottle of liquid, one cart, one battery, one atomizer with a cart attached to it. I'm sure this can be done with any tin that is deep enough to hold the 5 ml bottles. I used a kitchen sponge and cut out the shapes of each item to ensure a nice snug fit (I hate things that rattle in my pocket). I then used hot glue to attach a thin slice of the left over sponge to the lid to ensure no rattling.

About the originol problem with the atomizer, I noticed that one of mine were giving close to the same effect, and that my carts seem to be melting a bit on the edges when using that atomizer. When I looked down into the atomizer itself I noticed that it was off center and used something I had laying around and centered it up a bit. Seems to be working fine now.
