I use nothing but my flux bottle for refilling and it slips right past the cart stuffing nicely the liquid drips out at a decent enough rate but its not nearly as fast as a bottle, that's for sure.

hmm gauge....

I have a long pin off a lapel pin here that I have been using because I can't find a pin of any other type. The flux bottle needle is a tad smaller. Another good comparison is a jumper pin on the back of a (computer) hard drive, it's a tiny bit larger than that.

Good flow control, it's not sharp, the needle is quite long (mine is 1 inch), and the bottles are cheap. It's stainless and designed to hold flux; we all know e-liquid isn't nearly as caustic as flux is, so it should last a good long time.

I mix my liquid right in the bottle, pop the needle off (it comes off with a simple twist), and shake/dispense. The needle will also push right into a normal e-liquid bottle. Squeeze the empty bottle and it pushes air into the flux bottle and draws the liquid into it. =)

Doesn't the alcohol evaporate completely, and quickly? Explain the problem, since it isn't going to be consumed. It is commonly used topically as a disinfectant.

I too initially was thinking of isopropyl or perhaps methyl alcohol as a solvent. Then I remembered what I had read about denatured alcohol. This goes back to the Prohibition Era, IIRC. Anyways, I don't know the exact state of gov. regulations, but in order to make alcohol without needing to be licensed and regulated as a liquor company, makers of not-for-ingestion alcohol were required to add "de-naturing" agents so that their products were unfit for human consumption. Now, how many folks can remember seeing "Denatured Alcohol" labels at the drugstore? I sure remember those. Anyways, just for example, I was thinking that gas-line drier (e.g. "Heet") was 100% methyl alcohol, so I looked up the MSDS for it. Nope. It has a "proprietary" additive.

Do a web search for denatured alcohol and you'll find some interesting reading.

So, I bought a fifth of Everclear for $17. Yeah, more expensive than isopropyl, but I'd rather not be thinking of what additives might be in my cleaning solvent.

And yes, alcohol has a lower vapor point than water. I just wonder what gets left behind after it's gone.

Neither isopropyl nor methanol are denatured. Ethanol sold for non-beverage purposes must be denatured. The three are different alcohols.

If your isopropyl alcohol is from a drug store, there will be no additives left behind. It's water and isopropyl alcohol. "Heet" (available in both isopropyl and methanol formulations) is not the same purity as drug store isopropyl alcohol, has additives, and I certainly wouldn't use it.

Well, you got me thinking some more. I do recall seeing denatured rubbing alcohol on the shelf at a pharmacy, and at my folk's home, when I lived there. That's been some years, and I couldn't say for sure it was isopropyl. A bit of web searching indicates a distinct difference between "denatured" and "rubbing" in most usage, and I did find one definition of rubbing alcohol as ethyl combined with various other stuff.

I also now remember that when I was a pipe smoker, and worked in tobacco store, I used isopropyl all the time to clean pipe stems. Didn't kill me. In cases of really crudded up pipes, we'd even use it to clean the bowls. So I'm more than happy to back up the wagon.

Anyways, I'm still gonna use the Everclear, because I sure ain't gonna drink it! :p

Wistler,

I also previously purchased Everclear but have used isopropyl since I moved overseas and the chick who packed up my old house absconded with my bottle.

I had previously read the following articles and felt confident that the isopropyl was ok. Trying to be as health conscious as possible, I'm not so sure now so will go get myself some grain alcohol for future cleaning use.

Methanol (wood alcohol) . I.E. Denaturing agent

If you do not want to pay shipping just go to an apothocary shop or local pharmacy (20 gauge with 1 1/2 inch needle 3 ml) and they cost .25 to .50 cents. They do make you sign your name and give an address. I use a baby medicine syringe for pg or vg due to the thickness.
You have a picture of this? I looked and could not find anything like that at Walmart?
