Regulator Overheating!

Has anyone got the small LDO regulator to work without it getting hotter than the atty coil? I have it wired #1 pin IN, #2 GND and #3 OUT on the + circuit side but it gets super hot. Is there something I am missing? I can get the 7805 to work fine but I don't has the room in this one mod.

For our use it should only be on 7 or so seconds at a shot.. It's only on, on demand right? They do get a little warm without a heatsink but should cool down just as quickly..

Yeah its on demand but even melted the solder off of the ground one time. Problem is for where I wanted to put it, it would be too close to other components running as hot as it does. I see now the thermal shutdown is 320 degrees. May have to make room for the 7805 I guess. Just wondered if I was doing something wrong.

Problem solved...I hope!

I took two of the LDO's and soldered them together like a sandwich...a "double pumper" if you will. Can hold the button as long as you want and neither on gets hot...in fact I was holding them while doing it. Dont know how long they will last or if its "kosher" but hey...

See any problems with this setup that I dont know about?
