It makes it better. Mainly because you may drop and break your pro-tank in the process and save you having to use it anymore.

Seriously, many say it improves the flavor, kind of ironic that we call it a flavor wick when really it probably mutes the flavor. You may get some gurgling if you do this though - but with 50/50 juice, I'd say you should be OK, but that is IMHO.

Just try it, see if it works for you - you can always put it back, and it takes no more than 30 seconds. I tried it, didn't really notice any difference so I put my pro-tank back on the shelf and resumed vaping with my vivi nova.

Removing it can help with flavor a bit, and possible burning due to the wicking resting on top of the coil, it can also change how it draws slightly. I wouldn't take it all off, as Aglet said it can lead to getting too much liquid in, causing it to flood a bit. I never had many problems with them when I was buying the coils, but for me the protank didn't shine until I started re-wicking them myself. Its reverse able to as Aglet said.

Wrong

if you have flooding problems then remove it.it just aids in the wicking process.

Wrong

i think for thicker juice will wick better with less silica there ..thinner juice i would leave it alone to prevent flooding.

Correct

Flavor Wicks allow additional liquid around the coil This helps keep it wet and can allow for running at higher watts for better flavor.
However some liquids are thick and some flavor wick may need to be removed to allow faster saturation (Wicking) It is a balancing act.

If the tank works correctly - No dry/burnt hits and No leaking, it is best to leave it as is.

If dry/burnt - Rinse wicks remove a bit of flavor wick and try again.
If flooding, more wicking material may be needed. (thin juices)

From my experience, removing one or both flavor wicks helps with flavor and vapor production but only very slightly. For a real upgrade, rebuild them with a cotton wick. When I started doing this the ProTanks really improved. I love them now.

I use the same wick material but I use a micro coil build.

Ditto. Depends on your juice for the most part. Can help or hurt depending on your juice and your power/voltage setting, as it will affect both flavor and flooding (potential) and even leaking. I also prefer bottom coil clearomizers because they are position independent and provide a more consistent wicking. Personally, I can't stand my vivi novas anymore because their wicking does not keep up with my vaping unless I pretty much keep the topper pointed slightly downward. I find this annoying. Some like the top coil though due to its warmer vape. To each their own. Good luck and Vape On!

i love what i read about cotton wicks but overall since not exactly "experienced" rebuilding im afraid to rebuild myself. I mean cotton as in what? lol sorry for the scrub question. I mean do you use cotton balls and roll it to wick form wrap with wire and call it good? this is what confuses me i guess

you got it. it actually takes less then 30 seconds.
1 remove the base from the tank.
2 remove the head from the base.
3 remove the center air tube (a few rocks back and forth and she comes out, if not use pliers, dont squeeze hard)
4 remove flavor wicks
5 you will see the coil wrapped around a short wick. carefully pull the wick out of the coil tweezers help
6 tear some cotton off a non dyed and non scented cotton ball
7 roll it into thin piece of wick( dont make it think because cotton expands when wet and will wrap itself around the coil and cut off juice flow to the coil
8 insert rolled wick into the coil from one side until it reaches the other side and pull slightly and trim it to match the old wick
be careful not to pull too much. you dont want to disturb the coil wire inside the head. if when you pull the cotton on the other side its tight and the coil is shifting you made the wick too fat. back it out and redo it with a thinner piece of cotton.
done.

some people need to add a flavor wick on top, a small one, some dont. i did not. however this cotton trick didn't help much for me.

have fun.

I wouldn't say wrong to the fact that some may like the vivi nova better, I know I do.

This is the NEW Members section correct?

Just think it is more logical to assist in getting people up and running first in order to get through the early experience of switching to vaping.
THEN as they become acclimated they can try a hand at field stripping and rebuilding in order to get their perfect Vape.........if needed.

Not every new member is a new vaper. The OP directly asked a question about removing the flavor wick on a protank. I don't think there is anything wrong in giving a methodology as to how to achieve that.

The very fact that someone knows the terms for the wicks that sit on top of the coil tells me that they are probably ready to pop the head off and remove one and shouldn't be condescended to and have facts filtered for them to some perceived newbie level.
