My Reo Gand arrived today. My first impression was that it was a lot smaller than I had anticipated. I have already burnt the cotton on my RM2, still getting used to not having a tank. My RM2 is 1.3 ohms, 10 wraps of 28 gauge kanthal around a paperclip. The downside to the RBA that I have noticed is the flavor is a lot stronger than I was getting with my carto tanks so I my juice I had order with extra flavor shots is a bit too intense. That is nit picking though, it won't be an issue in the future once I get more juice. It seems pretty solid so far, no legitimate complaints other than it will not function with my flat top batteries. I'll have more input once I've had a little more time to use it. I'll upload pictures later.

Getting the right amount can be tricky. I like to pull out a piece about an inch long by 1/4 - 3/8, and where you can just barely see thru it. There should be very little resistance when you thread it, and should not bulge on either side of the coil.

Following those parameters gives me about a 3-4 hits / squonk, and great flavor, usually at .7ohms

I'm having an issue with burning..I need to do a squonk every 1-2 draws...I'm not using a ton of cotton but all of the threads I read people were saying how they weren't using a whole lot of cotton.

You'll get there. I vape 100%VG liquid, even with very little cotton (minimum length tails, too). Too much cotton can make it taste like dirty, wet socks. At first, I was squonking after every toot, but then I learned that I can really give a good, long squonk to saturate that little wick to get 3 toots to a squonk. I'd learned real quick that it's better to squonk more often to get better flavor (no dirty socks, lol) with a minimal wick.

Squonking is definitely an art, not a science. You'll get the hang of it in no time.

hmmm i try something different... i thread the cotton then i unroll it... poof it out so to speak once i have it in... then the end that is nearest the hole gets trimmed as close to the coil as possible... pretty much at the wire... the other end gets trimmed close but enough i can get tweezers on it to pull the wick out...

was gonna try cutting as close as possible... but then i might never get the cotton out...

Congrats on your first (and it will be your first) reo. You're going to love it once you make all the little adjustments.

Some good advice above on the cotton front, especially regarding using very little (I mean teeny amounts) and short wicks. Think about how much you think you should use... and then half that.

On the squonking front, you'll get it, like learning to use a clutch in a car - tricky at first, then comfort, then play with it, then you'll forget you're doing it.

I'm only a week in with the reo's myself, which I only mention to encourage you that it does not take long to dial in your vape and be in a very special place.

I forgot the cutting, I cut mine short on the hole side of the coil, and long enough on the other side, just enough to touch the deck. I keep it puffy and roll one side to a point, wick it thru, then cut. I feel like I get a better gauge on the density of the cotton when I pull it thru puffy, since the cotton i unroll is not always uniform in density. I can pull the wick thru until I reach that sweet spot in the wick.

Congrats and welcome to Reoville.

I've never been able to get past burning the cotton, just tried some again. I get absent minded and it burns. So I use hollow ekowool or ceramic for wicks. they last for a long time, I can rinse with water and dry burn them clean.

For your juice that now has too much flavor, cut it with some unflavored nic juice. you might also want to think about lowering the nic level. I go through more juice and need to lower the nic level.

Congratulations on getting your Reo! Its a good idea to pull out the drip tip and watch the juice rise inside the atty chamber. This gives you an idea how hard and how long to press on the bottle. You want the juice to get right up onto the coil. The excess juice gets sucked back into the bottle when you let go of the bottle.

I no longer thread my wicks. I make a bed and place it below the coil. It works well and is easier and quicker than threading (my eyes are old and threading it is a real pain for me). I have the squonk down pat, so don't even need to replace it that often if I keep it saturated. In fact, I have been known to only have to replace it when it is time to burn off the coil after days and days.

You will find what works best for you, whether it be the ceramic, cotton or silica. I like the ceramic a lot because you never need to replace it, you can just burn the coil and continue on.

I started with cotton and have moved to bamboo and ceramic. I just started using ceramic last week so the full review of it is yet to be determined. I will say I like it so far. I really like the bamboo. It's said that it is 3 times more absorbent than cotton. I take a length of it in a lower case "e" shape giving three threads and pull it through the coil from the middle with a wire so I have six threads going through the coil. (BTW this is a 1/16 ID coil) I use Aunt Lydia's natural bamboo crochet thread #10 size this can be sourced through Wallyworld dot com (Walmart) and delivered to your local store for $2.49. Be aware it says 3 feet but it shows a 300 Ft. roll and it comes as a 300 Ft. roll. So you'll have plenty. One of the things I like best is the taste if you forget to squonk isn't near as bad as cotton. It also seems to last better than cotton. Hope this might help you a little. Congrats and welcome to Reoville.

Val would you be willing to post a pic of how you place the wick on a RM2? I love using eckowool but even with a larger coil and the 1mm eckowool I have difficulty feeding it into the coil. I can not hand wrap it and I use a jig darkzero made for me.

The eckowool is hallow. Stick the eckowool over the end of the coil jig and wrap the coil over it. Easy Peasy.

ETA I use this method over a smaller than 1/16 drill bit (# 59) for my ceramic wick it's hallow too.

Really? I'd love to be able to do that! I always have to a) find my glasses, and/or b) find my magnifying thingy to change the cotton - which I usually end up doing every day. Would love to just be able to pop it under the coil. But, I would have thought it wouldn't heat up the same way it does when inside the coil? Still, will give it a try. Would love a pic too:p
