Hey guys and gals,

Sorry I am posting this as I'm sure it's been asked before, but I'm at work currently and can't search through too much to find the answer and the first few attempts didn't get it for me..so, sorry for redundancy.

Anyway...

I'm driving into work today and all of the sudden I feel my button slide WAY too far down and I realize the battery is loose.

I open up my door and the battery plops out. Low and behold...it's pretty obvious my spring has failed. It is showing some multi-colored blue and red on the spring and it is obviously compressed.

I just bought the device about 2 months ago. (it's my second, lost the last one :( )

I'm using the black reo grand with a AW IMR 18650, fresh charge on my standard trustfire multicharger, with a Joy-E 510 standard atomizer think its a 2.8 or whatever.

I've never used the CR123a for 6v, any other battery than the AW IMRs or any other atomizer etc. So not sure why it failed.

However, my question. Is this a repair I can do at home. It looks fairly simple, I just have no idea where to buy the new spring?

Any help as to why it may have failed and or where to get the new part is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Stifle

Rob has the spring you can order but his site is down right now. You might be able to buy one at a Radio Shack...just unscrew yours and take it in. You will probably have to drill a hole in the base of it so you can fit the screw- slightly smaller in diameter than the screw. I dont' think any of these bought commercially have that hole. Otherwise, usually when the spring collapses, it's the atomizer. Unscrew it and check it with a multi-meter between the center pin and the outside thread for ohms (at the 200 level so you get a decent reading). I'd say that you won't get anything close to what your ohms are suppose to be- most likely a "1" (one) and that means it's shorted out internally causing what happend. If this is the case, pitch it. I've gotten in a habit of checking all of mine before putting them on my Reos and also visually inspecting the center pin- it can get sideways especially if it's screwed on to tight. I collapsed the spring on my Grand last year but kept trying to get the thing to work and that was a mistake- I also melted my plastic button! Ended up having to send it back to Rob for a repair. Good luck with this- I'm sure others will chime in....Yes, it's a repair you can do yourself but make sure of the cause or you'll be doing the repair all over again. Good thing Rob builds in this safety feature of the collapsible spring- if he didn't, you could have seen that battery go up in vapors...

Nice, that's great, thanks for the help everyone.

I went to the Radio Shack website and didn't really see a spring, but I did see a battery holder for about a buck...these have that same spring in them and may have it screwed in so you can just take the spring out and use it: RadioShack N Battery Holder : Battery Holders | RadioShack.com

Is this going to be the same collapsible spring? Don't want to use something that won't give me the same protection. Just curious if you knew off the top of your head. Thank you!

I don't know- but I say it's similar enough...they put those springs in there to collapse (for safety reasons)- otherwise they would have a clip type connector. If you're desperate you could try this until yours gets to you from Rob. If you just can't reach him, let me know by PM- I have an extra spring I can send you and get another when Rob has things more settled down. Of course, from TN to Cali it will take most of this week- the 4th being mid-week and all.
