The reason were seeing more of it is people running sub ohm . Its even worse if your running sub ohm and not cleaning your mod . I cant wait to have the new contacts I am rather tired of it . I run . 8 to 1 ohm and clean mine once a month I think when they start going below this is were your seeing the issues

i have melted buttons both with and without sub Ohm coils - but i'm lucky like that! I sent my black grand to be "repaired" just before that video was released - it needed cleaning.

The only problem with Noaloxing the battery is having to carry Noalox with me to work for when i swap batteries out. The polythene bag thing is no use for trying to get any out - i might as well (and do) just carry the tube with me in my computer case. But it really does reduce filing the pin.

My usual daily coils are about 0.6Ω and no battery will quite last all day, but some come close.

What causes my batteries to have a black round circle forming on the tip of it? Is it oxidation? Or is it my contact pin is digging into the battery, my order of naolox didn't come it yet, so I don't know what the problem is. I think this is causing my misfire

It's not as clear in the picture, but it's just a tiny small black circle

So, my mod seems to be misfiring again. The contact is sparking when it touches the battery ( AW IMR 18650 ) . I filed the pin, and put some Noalox on it and even a bit on the battery tip. It started to do this when I started doing dual coils on my rm2, on 0.5 res, I think the sub ohm is causing too much oxidation, I'm not too sure, because I started running into problems when I went below 0.6 ohms

You will have more problems running sub ohm . I will have upgraded contacts to address this issue soon

Bingo, you've got it. Sub ohm is hotter more amps being pulled by the coil. The black ring a few posts back is caused by oxidation. I don't go that low .5 or .6 ohm but I always put a dab of Noalox on the top of the battery not the firing pin. The idea being a nice little layer of Noalox covers the contact point. When the pin comes down it is submerged in the Noalox and there is no oxygen to cause the sparking or oxidation from the spark. I would say you need to clean and file the firing pin. Noalox the top of the battery every time you change it. This also uses more Noalox but if the battery post is covered it will not spark, will not need cleaned as often and will not need filed at all. I've run mine like this for two months cleaned it and firing pin didn't need filing. Don't be afraid to use the Noalox.

I get that on some of mine too. I just take my dremmel and attach a polishing wheel with a dab of compound and buff those tips till they scream for more and they come out with a mirror finish....like factory fresh.

My vote is for subohm being the culprit. I've been using the RM2 for months and haven't experienced any of these issues at 1.4-1.8 ohms. This is on 2 REOs bought in 2011 and 2 bought just last month.

Ya, low ohms definitely require more maintenance, but button melting and spring collapsing can be avoided. I consistently run sub-ohm ~.46, have so for the last few months, and I've never had a button melt on me, or a spring collapse. I even replaced all the parts in my Grand with a new kit to see if the button had suffered at all. Nothing. The only problems I've had going sub-ohm is the quick build-up of oxidation and the voltage drop. Which, from what I hear, the new contacts will take care of.

The key is to clean your REO regularly, file the positive contact about once a week YMMV, and apply noalox liberally. I put a dab on the nipple of my battery every time I replace it.
