So they have to be a specific type of rebuildable atty? I was under the impression you could use any atty

You can modify a lot of different attys to work on a bottom feeder, but as the juice has to flow into the coil assembly from the bottom, only a few RBA's are specifically designed to work with REOs and other bottom feeders. The Reomizer is one that has been specifically designed to work with the REO.
Of course, you can use a non-rebuildable atty as well, most of those are bottom feeder friendly as they have holes drilled into the bottom section of the atomizer to allow the juice to flow into the coil.
If you really want to, you can also screw in most other clearos / attys / cartos and just use the REO as a battery - but that kind of defeats the whole purpose of having a bottom feeder.
If you are looking for a less-expensive device (and probably less solid as well as the chassis is all plastic) then Vapage make a VMOD and a VMOD XL. I have two of them and use them every day. I'll be getting something wooden soon (maybe a REO or maybe something else) but if you want a less expensive way to try the whole bottom feed genre, then a VMOD is a good way to start. Vapage often have 50% off sales, so you can get one for less than $45. It's not VV or VW though unless you modify it and put a kick in there.
As for the pros and cons - I think I have only seen one person that bought a REO and then sold it on the classifieds here. It seems to be once purchased, you're a REOnaut for life.
