Just finished rereading this thread and want to commend you guys on the work so far, looks promising.
I did some googling and came across these porous ceramic cups that can be custom made(min order I'm sure). I sent them an inquiry, we'll see what happens.
Here is the link to some specs on them. Maybe something that would help here.
Possibly putting the coil and wick directly into the cup? Just throwing some ideas out there.
I believe this thread is here discussing a non "coil" atomizer (via ceramic heater). Read the thread again, there are pics.
Interesting stuff you mentioned though.

Reading your post again were you talking about a DIY ceramic heater? If so it defeats the purpose of being able to clean the atomizer easily. If the coils come in contact with liquid they will build up residue (gunk). I believe the point of this design (the one we are testing) is so that the ceramic can be cleaned easily and it be ready to go fairly effortlessly. There are design issues that have not fully been addressed which is what we are trying to accomplish at this point.
If wifey lets me I may buy (not just for this threads tests) a laser temp reader.
