I read somewhere very recently (was it on the forum?)......sorry if it's old news or repetitive, but it really gob-smacked me........

.........that in 1998 a former PM researcher testified that the company abandoned promising research to eliminate cadmium, a lung irritant, from tobacco --- to protect itself against additional liablity. (read lawsuits...)

In 1963 (or thereabouts) they also knew that using a different kind of fertilizer on their tobacco-crops, and possibly starting over on not-contaminated fields, would get rid of the deadly polonium in their tobacco.
The other fertilizer was slightly costlier, but also there allready the same reason not to do this popped up: 'lets not start unrest and lawsuits, best to keep this an unknown'. There are copies of talks and memo's at PM at that time out there on the internet, I did find them with a lot of hunting but stupidly didn't bookmark the link - should be findable again though for who does some hunting like I did. I started out from this document:
Has the cause for Tobacco related Lung Cancer been found? Can it now be cured? Can 150,000 lives be saved each year?

Wow... **** like this just makes me sick... I have recently switched over to e-cigs and completely abandoned analogs. I am truly in love with my little glowy stick (as my nephew calls my e-cig).

For a company like PM to come out and say "We know our products kill people, but we don't give a flying rats ... -- ban the healthy ****"

Just wow.

EDIT: Ok, just re-read that and apologies for the tone -- I am fresh off of helping family deal with our third case of terminal lung-cancer in the last five years (yeah, we all smok(ed))

I found this very disturbing also, how they are working to make tobacco products safer. NOW??? PM was in the throes of manufacturing a smokeless cigarette in the 60's-70's, didn't work out for them. Hmmm.
Maybe because nobody gave a rat's _ _ _ about it then. Wonder why.
Oh, by the way, cigarette companies use PG as a humectant and mold inhibitor in their products. So Old Uncle should maybe give PG's and nicotine a pass, since it's proven safe already. ????? This is scarey stuff.

Oh, what a web we weave....

STEVE JO, my condolences...

Of course they're interested in it now, there's a market ;) Why save people unless it will make 'em a few $$?
