I know this is a dead thread, but I wanted to debunk some of the notions about vaping through a hookah, and make some suggestions for people (who have a ton of juice) to try. I picked this thread to reply because there was a lot of misinformation in it, I wanted to clear it up, and it was the newest of the e-hookah threads here.
First and foremost, vaping PG through a Hookah with very cold water creates more vapor than what you can produce through a manual drag on your e-cig. Using just a Joye 510 a few months ago, I built an apparatus that not only passed the vapor through my hookah, but through another home-made hookah as well, all on the way through the main hookah hose to create immense clouds of beautiful sweetness. The homemade one is literally a corked 500mL flask with a rubber stopper, intake hose connected to the 510, outlet hose connected to the top of my rotating hookah. I don't have any videos of it or anything, but I could take pictures of the whole setup if anyone was interested.
Hookah, if used properly, doesn't BURN the tobacco, it merely cooks it to the point of vaporization. That being said, the COAL produces just as many carcinogens as a cigarette, which is where the danger comes in when having long hookah sessions. When I figured out how to vaporize the Shisha instead of even slightly burning it, my experience became much better. Using a Steel Screen instead of Aluminum Foil is also beneficial to health, even though you're still pulling all those particulates from the coal through your water filter, and some still make it through the hose because of the enormous bubbles coming through the water, not all of them get filtered. Still, being able to transfer the heat of the coal, while eliminating the particulates and smoke from said coal, will give you a much better experience with a hookah. For the best flavor, using Double Apple flavor mixed with anything else will amplify the flavors of both. Tutti-Fruity is amazing by the way. =)
So my idea requires a real hookah, and modifications to the output hose, but no worry of leaky attys or anything like have been discussed in this and other threads. Like I said this method requires a LOT of juice, on the order of a pint of whatever flavor you want to vape, and a lot of friends to take it all down. lol. Using a 6v motorcycle battery is probably going to be the best source of power for long lasting sessions, and due to the high output, you would probably not want to use Low Res Atty's though this wouldn't use an atty to begin with, more likely the guts of a clearomizer or cartomizer.
You will actually need a long braid of 1/4" diameter wicking for this, perhaps lantern wicking or a bunch of carto wicks braided together loosely. Through the output hole, insert the wicking until it touches the bottom of the hookah glass and curls up a bit. This will ensure enough of the wick is in the juice at all times to continue wicking. The top of the wick should stick out of the outlet hole by an inch or more, and unbraided enough to attach to the guts of 2 cartomizers. An acrylic or glass tube with a properly fitting gasket on both ends (one for the output and one for the hose) should be fitted around the carto guts and wicking. With a dremel or other high speed drill that can cut through acrylic or blown glass, you pop a hole in the side of your giant carto, and attach a carto-end battery connector. Epoxy it in so it is permanent, and solder your contact wires for the carto parts to the inside of it. You MAY want to do this so the battery connector has to be inserted in the tube from the inside, so you can do all your soldering before assembly. Solder the leads from your 6v battery to a battery connector (making sure you include a switch and LED to show that it is turned on) and attach to the carto-end connector on the tube. Fit the tube in the hookah, and fit the hookah hose to the tube. Flip the switch on the 6v battery and vape away. Most hookahs have a hollow base under all that steel, so if you could find a battery/battery pack that could fit under that base, the only thing that would look different would be the lead wires running to the carto you built. I wish I had a prototype that I could show you guys, but as yet, I don't have any Carto's except for my tank, but as soon as I run some of my inbound cartos to their throw-away point, I'll build this thing for everyone to see. =)
