So, I picked up an eVic earlier this week and I absolutely loved it. My control head went belly up this morning and I took it back to my B&M to replace it. Well, they didn't have any more control heads so rather than wait a week, I swapped it out for a Vamo and extra batteries.

I put my same 3 ohm carto tank, with the same 18mg 80pg/20vg Dark Ice juice, at the same 9 watts, and to my surprise the vape is vastly different! On my eVic, I got a nice mild throat hit and an awesome cloud, which is what I want in my vape: a decent throat hit and the biggest cloud I can chase down.

On the Vamo, it's the opposite. The throat hit took a nice bump up, but is still within my liking if a bit on the heavy side. The cloud however was puny, at least in comparison to the eVic. Maybe 1/2-3/4 the cloud I was pulling before.

I like the Vamo, don't get me wrong, but I do miss my eVic already. I'll be getting another in a month or two, but keep my Vamo close by as I do enjoy it.

I was just curious as this is only the second APV I've used, at least side by side like this, does the vape always differ so much from mod to mod? I expected it to be different, but it's almost an entirely different experience.

Interesting...I noticed the airflow is more restricted on the Vamo than the eVic. Maybe between that and the throat hit keeping me from taking as long a draw as consistently I'm limiting myself without really realizing it? The Vamo seems to be functioning beautifully, they even gave it a once over at the shop cause I've been in there for issues with the eVics twice this week.

The only other difference is that my Vamo has an EH 2000mah IMR 18650 and my eVic came with an unprotected Samsung 2600mah ICR 18650, but that shouldn't really matter either.

It seems to be a difference in the airflow. I unscrewed my tank about a half turn and the vapor production shot up pretty good. I won't run it like this all the time, but it revealed the culprit for me. I'm gonna try a 2 ohm carto when this 3 ohm is done and see if I like that a little more. Like I said, I like the Vamo it's a great mod, but I LOVED my eVic. I can't wait to get another.

Try turning your watts down, too.

The watts setting's on the devices are not always consistent between devices, nor accurate. And I'm pretty sure I read that some don't maintain the setting well as the battery life dwindles. The Evic is a different "chip" inside, most assume, so it could be part of the difference you are experiencing as well.

There should be very little difference in changing carto ohms, if you are using VW settings.

To me, this is one of the nicest, easiest, wonderful things about VW. The device reads the ohm's of the atomizing device and does the math to change the voltage to the watts (power/heat level) setting. A 2 ohm carto and a 3 ohm carto should perform the same for you when set at the same watts level.

Great on getting the air flow changed more to your liking. Way to go!

I like my Evic a lot, as well. Vamo was too big, heavy and clunky for me.

The size doesn't bother me too much as it is narrower and relatively the same height as my eVic, but man it is heavy! Like, really heavy. I didn't understand what people meant when they said the eVic felt "cheap" but I see the difference now that I've held the Vamo.

I'm adjusting to it though. I may file the top down just a bit to allow a bit more air to flow, but the more I vape it, the more I adjust to the Vamo's subtleties as it were. I have to hit it a little lighter to allow more air to pick up vapor instead of rushing through and remaining mostly just air. That seems to help both issues as I allow it to trickle down my throat at a certain point and I can actually extend my hit a few seconds. That way, I take in more vapor, on a longer draw, but I don't get the whole throat hit at once and choke on it either.

Sounds to me like you are getting the hang of this vaping thing well. I think we all develop our own minor differences in our stye of vaping and learn to adjust a bit as needed, or our mood, or the position of the stars, lol.

There are a lot of vamo fans around here. You might enjoy reading what some of them have to say and pick up a trick or two.

You might want to purchase the "Air Controller" from madvapes.com if they are still available. One, it will protect the 510 threads on the Vamo which some have cross threaded. Two, it will protect the positive terminal and O ring in the Vamo, another weak point. Three it will allow you to use flat top tanks which tend to choke when tight on the Vamo (No air flow). Four, it is sealed so if your juice drips out of your carto, it won't go through to the Vamo well. Best of all, they are under $3.00. You can't go wrong with this little add on to the Vamo
