Has anyone rethreaded their atomizer with a tap or die? I was thinking of rethreading one of my 801 and 103 atomizers with this method to a more standard thread type for easy modding. I found that a M8x1.0 was very very close to 103 and a M10x1.0 was very very close to my 801. I had not thought about this until a guy at the hardware store suggested it. He had a ton of great ideas so I may go back and talk to him. He strart dropping flashlight ideas and everything it was crazy. But I was thinking rethread like this would make making battery/switch boxes a whole lot easier.

So Anyways I was wondering if anyone has tried this?

You could try an m10-.75 or m8-.75 for finer threads.
same with a die to re thread the battery,,

if you need to drill or tap any parts, the formula for the pilot drill to use is just thread size minus pitch,,m10 - 1 is a 10m tap with a 1m pitch,,
example m10-1 tap would be 10 - 1 = 9 mm drill

im a machinist so if you have any drill, tap,or machining questions in general just send me a message.

Thanks a ton! I want to see if I can just start making connectors for different atomizers and make a ton of them for easy modding and not have to worry about taking a battery apart.

Don't forget you will need a bottom tap and a shoulder die for this attempt. I say attempt because you know as well as I do that re-threading one size over an existing thread will only result in about a 40% thread at best and if you try to tap the battery the connector will probably spin in the body and break the wires. So be careful.

This is assuming you are not planning to turn down the existing thread and start with fresh material.

I AGREE,,
rethreading over a thread to change the size isnt something we do in shops.
it could just strip the thread right off if your not carefull, or like you said maybe have 40% of a thread left.
my pilot is brass so i dont think it would spin but it could.

and there isnt much clearance in the atomizer for a tap so i take it for granted that it would have to be a bottom tap but for someone new to taps thats a good point to mention.

you would need to buy the taps a nd a small tap wrench and same with the matching dies for the battery..

another idea is that if your just making custom connectors to try mods and ideas.
then maybe you could just go to home depot and buy brass metric screws that fit into your atomizers and then modify the screws as part of your connectors..
the thread in the atomizers is probably just a standard but fine thread that you could buy at home depot or alro.com

Yea a connector was what I was thinking of doing. I just want to be able to attach my 103 or 801 to a battery box or homemade pass through using my own connection, My only issue is that the threads are thinner then anything i could find that was premade :(

If i could just find a screw or something that fit I would be crazy happy and would have an easier time modding I think.

You guys have been a great help so far cus Im very new to the idea of tap and dies. Thanks.

to buy special fine taps etc, i just put this link on another post about the m401 threads.

might be able to find copper tube close to the size at home depot or alro.com
or the idea above about using old atomisers would work.

heres a link to buy special size taps if you ever need any.
