July 29th was my last day. I tried a week of working part time but my heart wasn't into it. So I'm hanging it up.

It feels great. Time to get some stuff done around the house, spend more time with my wife, do some things that make me happy, and start pondering the imponderable.

Congratulations Ed Brown. Your time is all your own now, and it sounds like you have plans for making the most of it.

Congrats!
I'm about 15 months into my retirement. I'm probably still in the later stages of Dr. Moynes' phase 2 (above). There is a psychological adjustment period, that I'm sure is a little different for everyone. I describe it as feeling a bit adrift. Like someone cut my anchor rope. I have been keeping busy, in fact I've lost 20 lbs in that 15 months. Been brainstorming ideas on things I'd like to get into. Not meaning restarting any type of work / career things. I'm perfectly happy that is now out of my life.

I may see if there's a local Old Coots Giving Advice chapter in my area. That looks like more fun than mall walking.

Enjoy!

That gives a good overview and I'm firmly in vacation mode now. I guess it's up to us to fill in the details, like making amends, fixing wrongs done if possible, etc.

    Congratulations Ed.

Now; the one thing that you can not avoid in retirement is getting old.
No matter how hard you try, your body will get old.
So don't try jumping out of the back of a pickup truck .... it hurts
Matter of fact, ya might want that pickup truck sitting a little closer to the ground so that you can step out of it a bit easier. (don't need those big tires anymore)

So find ways to exercise your mind, (while you still have one) it pays off in the end.
I'm 81 now, and it's been quite a ride, but "so what" if it takes a minute longer to wrap a coil or mix a new bottle of e-liquid. At least I still can. (now if I could just figure out this stupid phone)

OH-and, the real second phase of retirement is wondering how in the hell did you ever have the time to go to work!

    So enjoy ............

    add:
You will enjoy watching 8 & 9 fade into step 10.

Congratulations bud. My mother is retiring next month and moving to TX, from CT. I'm 2 months from 55, and since my (multiple) attempts to get SSI have failed, I have less than a decade now before I'll try and retire.

Not to be confused with the Shinyitus Support Group :D.

I made that mistake years ago.

Tried to complete the 13th step, but no one was having it .
    13th step is 1/2 of the 1st + 1/2 of the 12th:

My life is totally ....ed and I want to share it with you

Did you have an attorney specializing in SSI claims?
