I was at a local independent Jewelry shop today and asked the owner if he did Rhodium plating on top of silver plating. He surprised me when he said he indeed did do this plating in house. He said he did the Rhodium plating on silver rings and such. I asked how much it would cost to plate the contacts and spring for a mod. He said he would have to see the parts to determine price, but for an estimate he said he gets around $20 to put the Rhodium plating on a silver ring.
The reason people put the Rhodium on silver is to keep it from tarnishing. This is the same reason MMV is putting this Rhodium over the silver plated brass contact parts on the Poldiac V2. The contacts , with this plating, do not require frequent cleaning as the silver plated only does.
I am going to get him to put the Rhodium plating over the silver contacts of another mod I have and see how it holds up.
