Yeah OK, but what I'm kinda saying is that reviews may not always be entirely what you think they are.

To make it simpler, it's like this: if Mr X makes the Z ecig, he phones up the reviewer and says, you want a couple of these? If you give me a good review I'll send you a box of stuff. (If the reviewer is an amateur.) If the reviewer is a pro, he phones up and asks how much a favorable review of the Z Ecig will cost.

Not sure if that makes it any clearer.

Tell me when you last saw what looked like a balanced review but it had plenty of faults flagged up? If you did, it was for something the reviewer had to buy himself, and the vendor may have turned down an offer of a good review due to the $$ cost.

Now you must be aware of how many faults everything has. Yes, everything. When did you last see a review that listed any issues at all with the product being reviewed?
I disagree a little bit Roly...you're a pessimist :lol::lol:
I think Phil gives a pretty honest review and hits products for what they're lacking without (usually) bashing them. he makes a living now and gets swag and giveaways, but still stays honest to flaws he sees. As a reviewer you don;t really have to say "Itew X is a piece of crap", but to say I don;t like it because it's poorly made...ugly...BLEW UP IN MY FACE...lol

I agree completely people like Phil actually influence the industry by being direct and honest, on more then one occation he has come down on something only to be contacted by the maker then sent a revised product with the flaws worked out. Thats respect for being honest amd wanting a better product for all vapors not some campy wanna be poster child for smoktech.

Being a reviewer and paid for endorsement are two seperate things.

About every 3rd review on phils site lol. You need some sun man

I think Rip has been called out on something of this nature before. He has addressed this issue in a video. His statement was something to the effect of the fact he does receive (lots of) hardware from manufacturers and suppliers. Some of this he reviews, some not. He also stated he does not receive money for reviewing any item.

He owns a vape related company but rarely mentions this. He may get some cash by the amount of hits that are made by clicking on links he provides in his description but that is another story.

Oh yea, I rarely watch his reviews unless it is about coil building. I think he acts like a doofus!

I have no opinion one way or the other. Twisted was on Mod Envy tonight and it was the basic Mod Envy show - lots of talk and not much real info. Twisted is said he is going to put up a video tomorrow night outlining the situation. My care level is quite low.

And that's the long and short of it for me too Ocey. Manufactured drama from a group that specialize in it to drive traffic to their websites and blogs.

That's all it is.

Of course RIP makes money from his reviews, either directly or indirectly. If he doesn't, he's not doing it right.

To me Rip seems to be more about posting tutorials than giving long in depth reviews. People complain about him not answering questions but honestly, if you can't watch his tutorials, do a Google search yourself, and watch other tutorials, then your beyond helping.

Rip is hilarious and he makes me laugh. It's 2015, people can and do make money off the internet, even/especially YouTube. Either get used to it and shut up, or cancel your internet subscription and live under a rock.

Rip has worked hard to develop a brand for himself. Personally, I enjoy watching him. For a blogger or a vlogger (video blogger) to receive money from vendors is not uncommon in various industries. This is how business works. Everybody gets something in business. To be be interested in getting something is not selfish.

Can one trust someone who always says everything is amazing? No. We sort out the bones. However, though he may exaggerate to maintain his shtick, he is also very informative. He keeps vaping fun and carefree. In the USA, Rip is a constituent part of the scene.

I have seen people do mock videos of Rip. Some of those are fun. But I think most those who make personal attacks against Rip are in the wrong. Do they have nothing better to in an Internet where there are plenty of other clicks to satisfy any interest. Apparently, this is what they find interesting.

Anyway, you can't make everyone happy. If any one of us were to try to do what Rip does, we would very quickly find out that we make a lot of people upset just by being ourselves.

I see no problem at all with promoting and getting paid by vendors, after all they are paying for the stuff they send him and some advertising is necessary to remain competitive. After all, consumers always have a choice to shop around. No matter who they buy it from, customers are getting the same product.

I think there is a problem being paid to review product however, as it leads to bias on the product. Customers may end up not getting what they expect.

1. Start YouTube channel - CHECK
2. Post video - CHECK
3. Wait for "hits" - CHECK
4. Post another video - CHECK
5. Wait for followers - CHECK
6. Manufacture controversy to funnel viewers to your site - CHECK

It seems I've discovered the secret to YouTube success. Oh wait. Maybe not... Depends on how you define "success".

Here's how to be a YouTube success:
-Be interesting or have some Charisma (I'll wait while you look it up)
-Be informative
-Be at the front, not the back of the technology/release curve
-Review something people care about, especially juice reviews. No one want to hear about your review of your Uncle Franks Homemade butterscotch eJuice.
-Get your hot girlfriend to be in your videos

Also, I'm sure Rip is paid (in some form) but I would still watch his videos over any 2 dozen unknowns. Unless they had hot girlfriends.

:)
