Hello all,

I just got my Riva 510 the other day, and it's been pretty good so far. However, the liquid is tasting a little burnt and also hurting my throat a little bit. I'm using 18mg totally wicked juice right now. Does anyone have suggestions for a better tasting liquid or perhaps a reason for the bad taste I am getting now? I think the problem has to do with juice and not the Riva itself, since it is brand new after all.

Thanks

Are you using carts? After only a few days use a cart can get somewhat bitter and burnt tasting. You can try removing the stuffing, rinsing it and pressing it between paper towels. Rinse the cart and dry with qtips. Reassemble and refill. I never had much luck though getting stuffing to workw ell again so I bought precut 510 blue foam stuffing from strictlyejuice.com (under $1 for 10 pieces). I rarely use carts but when I do it it with blue foam stuffing and I have cut blue foam stuffing for the carts of my other models. It holds its shape and rinses/pats dry very easily.

Your atomizer may also need to be blow out occasionally to get old old/burnt juice and reprimed with a 2-3 drops.

In general, I just don't use atty and cart. I use an atty and drip tip to test juices, occasionally vape longer with dripping, and I use Boge cartomizers for the rest (95%) of my vaping. Only juices I like get cartomizers. Only some people succeed in cleaning/drying cartos - I treat them as one long use items. They are meant to be disposable. I can get 1-2 weeks good use or more out of a Boge cartomizer if I use thin juices with no sediment.

I'm using cartridges and atomizers right now, separately (I guess?). I just tried a different atomizer as suggested and it made a huge difference! Also, I guess some of the harshness could be attributed to the nicotine content, but we shall see. Is it possible to buy the blue foam inserts and just keep reusing the cartridges instead of buying more?

Yes, reusing the carts is usually what people do. The carts can last a very long time before needing to be replaced. Try dripping with the burnt tasting atomizer and see if there's a difference. Just put 3 drops in there and use an empty cart. Vape until the vapor production drops off and then add a couple more drops, rinse and repeat.

Aside from the obvious, is their a major difference between atomizers with a separate cartridge and cartomizers?

I have never been able to fill a cart without making a mess. I either get a mouthful of hot juice spitting on my tongue or nothing. Cartomizers, you fill with about 1 ml of juice and top it off. If I had to rely on carts I probably wouldn't vape.

There are many people though that like them and think you get a better vape. I just don't care for carts/atty.

Cartomizers hold more juice so you don't have to fill as often but are harder to clean if you want to change flavors or they are all gunked up. With carts you can try them on various attys til you find the one that works best for you and they are easy to clean. I would replace that white fuzzy crap that comes with carts and replace with blue foam. That will increase the flavor and you will get better wicking to the very last drop. Carts are cheaper than cartos. When I say cartos, I'm talking about the filler material ones. For me, they suck so I use CE2s that don't have the filler material. They are like a tank that you hear so many people rave about. Hope this wasn't too obvious and helps you to decide what's best for you.
