Firstly, I'd like to say that I'm relatively new to vaping; I apologize in advance if this review doesn't cover all the bases that you may be looking for. A little history - I started with Volcano's V-Cig which is similar to the BLU cigarette. I was happy with the V-Cig for a few days, then found myself frustrated with battery life, the draw required to activate the battery, and the constant need for refilling or replacing cartridges. A couple of the fine folks on this forum advised me to look into a 510 model and it was suggested that I check out Liberty-Flights. GLAD I DID!
The RIVA 510 Lite Bundle included:
2 750mAh Batteries
2 510 Atomizers - 2.2 ohm resistance
1 USB Fast Charger
1 USB Mains Plug
10 Blank Carts
1 Atomizer Cone
I opted for the steel - which actually appears to be a brushed steel which has been generously buffed to a nice shine.
Upon arrival (which took about a week to be processed and shipped cross-country), I received a cardboard envelop in the mail with a nice black presentation-box packed inside. I was happy I received a decent box with the order because I'll be using it to store my fluids and carts. The instructions suggested charging both batteries for 8 hours, then smoking for 20 minutes, followed by a second charge until the "green" indicator light turns on. Assembling the unit was self-explanatory, however, I'm not sure if the atomizer cone serves any purpose beyond ergonomics.
After my soured experience with my previous unit, I did not have the patience to wait 8 hours for an initial charge. I've read online that the "memory" of these batteries are not effected by failure to adhere to the charging instructions. I felt that even if this were wrong, I'd just buy another battery if one went south.
After filling one of the blank carts with my favorite fluid from Vapesafe (serenity), I assembled the unit and tried it "fresh out of the box". The battery seemed to be shipped with a partial charge.
LOTS OF VAPOR. What impressed me the most was that it required very little (if any) draw compared to my previous unit. As soon as I hit the button, vapor was delivered. What a difference a decent battery makes! All you have to do is activate the battery, place the cart near your mouth, and inhale as if you were taking a light breath of air! I was truly impressed.
Fluid seems to go a bit further with the 510 atty than compared with my V-cig. I was very pleased to find that my atomizers I purchased with the V-cig will screw right into the battery of this unit, and perform just as well as the 510's. They do require the V-cig's carts, however =) (which is just fine - I don't mind having backups!).
For the first day of use, I did notice a slight strange taste that seem to disappear after day two. I was a little confused at first - sometimes I would get incredible flavor, and at other times I would get a burnt tasting flavor. I later read in the forums that this is due to a coating that is applied to the attys so they don't dry out by the time they are delivered to you --- a "factory prime" would be a better term. Little did I realize that there were steps that could be taken to burn this off ahead of time.
What impresses me the most about this is the battery life. The battery lasted a day's worth of continual vaping. I think that's impressive! Gone are the days of charging a battery on a small unit, and having it expire as you drive to the store!
With this being my second unit, it definitely fulfills all of my needs and expectations. I would definitely recommend this to any individual who is new to vaping. It may not look like a cigarette (which was my reasoning for purchasing the first unit), it vapes/smokes incredibly well.
I'm not entirely sure what the term "throat hit" is - however, it does create quite a bit of vapor and the flavour is excellent once the priming material is burnt off. I'd have to say that this is an EXCELLENT value for the money with an OUTSTANDING battery life. It's sturdy enough to use as a miniature self-defense weapon, and I'm very glad I made this purchase.
