Vendor: River Bottom Fog Sauce
Liquid: St. James Parish 12mg
Description: Ah yes, Perique ... often considered the truffle of pipe tobaccos. True Perique is grown on a mere 16 acres of land in St. James Parish, Louisiana. Once harvested it is moistened with water, and compressed into old hickory whiskey barrels.
Approximately once a month the pressure is released, and the tobacco is worked by hand to permit a little air back into it giving this tobacco a very unique flavor from the fermentation. Known for its strong, powerful and fruity aroma, which is the result of hundreds of volatile compounds created by anaerobic fermentation of the tobacco. Many of these compounds are responsible for the flavors of fruits and are often found in wine. Some taste figs or prunes. Riverbottom, the creator of this wonderful sauce says Myself?.....I taste heaven. and we can't agree more. Riverbottom says, Perique was "THE" most important extract for me going in to this. I loved Perique so much I used to roll into paper and smoke it like a cigarette. I wanted to carry over the love, sweat and tears it takes to properly curing this tobacco into my Sauce. This passion shines in all of his sauces and especially in Saint James Parish.
Thoughts:
If one thing can be said about River Bottom Fog Sauce (RBFS) it's simplicity. There are no "secret" flavorings or anything left to the imagination. If the flavor is perique, then you're getting perique. As described perique is only grown at St. James Parish with a very unique process. Very few vendors actually extract from pure perique. RBFS is pure perique.
The flavor of perique is very different from other tobaccos. As stated there is a slight fruity flavor along with the mild bodied tobacco. Unlike other tobaccos there is not a smoky flavor. Like a fine wine the flavor is obviously tobacco but with a unique flavor that is somewhat indescribable. With a lighter body and slight sweetness, perique has an amazing flavor that one must try.
St. James Parish has great vapor production with a good throat hit.
Final Thoughts:
There's not much to say about St. James Parish besides it's fantastic flavor. A unique tobacco extracted to perfection you can't deny the simplicity yet greatness of this liquid. In a world where most NETs taste grassy or similar St. James Parish shines. 10/10
