More maintenance as silica doesn't last long as well as the odd taste from excessive dry burns (shouldn't be an issue under normal use in a genny though). I never liked any of my SS mesh builds, maybe I'm just doing it wrong, but the flavor was great once broken in.

I currently use Ekowool sleeved over a SS mesh wick & I'm happy with it now more than ever. And Ekowool can be torched to clean up gunking. I only torch once though & the next time it gets replaced. With silica when I torched it just once to clean it it would give me nasty taste. Same if I dry burned it a few times.

Hey i run 3mm silica in all my gennys when i use creamy or dark heavy flavors. Fruit flavors i use ss mesh

right now i got mbv strawberry short cake 50/50 in my agi natural hybrid steaming like a frieght train.
A simple 5/4 wrap around a 4-40 machine screw and slid the 3mm silica single strand through leave 1/4 in sticking up over the coil and extra in the tank. The extra in the tank is so i can pull the wick up and trim off the burnt and worn out part with clippers when nessasary and keep vaping away. Very easy. When you burn it by acsident just pull up and trim it off

also the rsst has a huge wick hole that is insulated so you can run doubled up 2mm if you wanted. The rsst is an awsome atty. It would be perfect if someone could come up with an easy mod for a glass tank.

Right on. Thanks guys, really want to try out a RBA, the RSST looks like the way to go. If I don't get the hang of or don't like the ss mesh, I now know it will not be useless :D

Hey u know lots of people claim dripping is were the flavor is at and what do you use to build a coil on a dripper? Silica right so why wouldn't it work on a genny? Just set up a coil the way you would a dripper and run a tail in the tank hole and you have sort of a bottom fed driper or do what i do set your genny up like you would with ss mesh and slide the right size Silica wick in instead. Easy breasy beautiful. . . cover girl.

Ss though does bring out the flavor of sweets and fruits though a lot more than Silica.

IMO I see it differently, I use cotton in drippers, cleanest true flavor for me. I have only one genny,a RSST, it's good & I'll be keeping it but I won't be buying anymore. The problem I have noticed is that juice gets cooked & gets mixed back into the tank, worse if I oxidize the mesh too much. The juice always gets darker eventually which is a good sign of this. Some juices change the way they taste, some don't. But ever since I switched from a full mesh wick it doesn't happen as fast. I can't see this being any different with other gennies. Probably not an issue if you use it daily & go through a lot of juice. A true bottom feeder is as close as you can get to dripping. Fresh juice everytime it's fed.

Genius method of putting in extra and trimming off burnt parts. I dislike mesh so I use silica and recently ekowool but never thought to do that. good stuff

After getting great results using silica in a DID.. I just wrapped a coil with some ekowool and installed it in my RSST. The resistance came out to 1.3ohms with 30g and using it on a Roller. The coil isn't the prettiest and in the pic it looks a bit lopsided but it's working just as good, if not better than mesh :D And is was a LOT easier to build, install and get working.

I've had the same silica build in a DID for a couple weeks now and it still has great flavor and vapor. I figure it's about time to put a new coil and and new piece of silica in it though.

After writing this I took the coil and silica wick off the DID. I don't have the clear window on it so I can't tell if my clearish juice had turned dark (like it frequently does with mesh) I took a syringe and sucked out the juice and after almost 2 weeks, it hasn't turned darker at all :D

I recently gave up on mesh for my gennies and it was the best decision I have made yet. I use the same method mentioned above with a long tail in the tank so I can pull a bit up when the silica gets dark. I have also noticed less tendency for the tank to leak if I set it down for a minute on its side. Good stuff!

Here's my most recent build that I just made. So far its the best to date for me.

#500 mesh wrapped tight around 2mm silica, 28g round wire wrapped 4 times (around .9ohms). The silica sticks out the underside of the mesh about half an inch at most goes through the mesh and back into the tank through the fill hole.
