I purchased all my diy coil making stuff, along with a subtank mini and have found the build deck on the mini is way to small for me.(older person) Can someone recommend a rta that has a big build deck, bigger then the subtank mini, easy to build on, and good airflow for mtl. I will only be building single coils.

Thanks

What sort of vape do you prefer? Mouth to Lung? Direct to lung? Subohm or higher ohm? What device will you be mounting the tank on? It all makes some degree of difference.

I'm in no way an authority on RTAs though I have some that I used for a time then stashed them for emergency use if needed.
I am somewhat experienced with the old shaky fingers tho.

I do have 2 Subtank Mini, great tank, and have rebuilt The RBA head a few times. Certainly doable but far from enjoyable. Currently using my STMs with the throw away Coils that came with them, when those coils are used up the tanks will be stashed with the others.

Now to my point. I've found my preference In Joyetechs CLR coils and the dozen or so tanks that accept them. Yes, they are even smaller than the STM RBA but a joy to work with. They're rewickable and rebuildable by design. I don't find myself needing a 3rd hand!

If you like you can check the thread devoted these tanks and coils here. Plenty of folks there eager to bring you up to speed on them. Just skim over the last few pages, introduce yourself and ask questions.

Edit: And many, maybe the majority, of us in that thread are "older persons" ;)

Theres also a lot of good clones of these higher end tanks rather than spending 100 -200 euros for one , you can get a pretty decent 1.1 Clone for a fraction of price , like hussar 20$ can get hussar CLone can use for dtl with its single coil deck or mtl with swapping out Airflow pin.

I joy Exo is also excellent nice build space dual deck a dual coil or single coil , 2ml or 6ml capacity all included for 20£

There are a few simple tricks that make it much easier to install the coil in to the Sub Tank RBA.

Drill a hole (the same size as the 510 on the base) in to a small block of wood. Put the RBA in to the base and the base in to the block of wood. Insert a nail, small screwdriver, ect. in to the coil and lay the coil/nail on the RBA. From there it's easy to put the wire under the partially unscrewed set screw and tighten it. I'm right handed so I do the right side first, then spin it around and do the other side.

I've made many hundreds of coils when I was using the PT2's but find it much easier to use these (or similar) for the STM. $6.33 Authentic Kanthal A1 Nichrome Pre-Coiled Wires for Rebuildable Atomizers (100-Pack) - 1.5ohm / 0.3mm dia. (28 AWG) / 31*22mm leads at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

I'm "older" too (mid 60's) and also need a bright light shining on it.

I tell people that I don't mind getting older. It's the decrepit part that bothers me. o_O

Good info. I just want an rta with a large build deck. The subtank mini is just to small for me plus the screw on the deck is very difficult to loosen.

My biggest concern is the build deck. I want a large build deck where I dont have to struggle inserting the coil build into the screws on the deck. I am MTL and use a evic vt, 60 watts at around 12 watts.

If your looking for a larger single coil build deck there is a few good ones , then yoy need to decide on do ypu want wide open Airflow or restriced airflow , ? This helps to decide on why type of RTA you can choose since it splits them up to Direct to lung DTL (wide open) Or

Theres
Merlin rta 5ml 25mm
Merlin mini 24mm w x decks single an dual
Ijoy Exo 26mm 6ml
Wotofo sepent
Wotofo Alto
Ammit 25mm single coil
Theres many to many to list like i say need to know type

mouth to Lung (restriced) type

Have a look at SRV4 rta on YouTube , single coil deck it cant get easier to build on , 5ml jfc top fill , w screw to to wrap wire under ,
Or Taifun GtV3 check out youtube for a closer look at them 23mm in size perfect for low wattage i use SS 316l on them ,

I love my single coil , restriced airflow , or MTL

Which is exactly why I prefer the the CLR, it has no screws, no "build deck". If you insert your mandrel (drill bit, whatever you wrap on) with coil into the juice slots and screw on the top cap it will actually lock the coil in place and hold it there while you attach the legs to the base of the coil.

Anyway thumbs up on the Evic VT. I'm tracking one now that cost me $20 on clearance and comes with a CLR compatible tank. Win win in my book.

Simple to use setup , great Flavours , you can buy a deck insert for it ,

Or SR v4 rta you can purchase a mtl nano kit ,

But best for Flavours
Hussar RTA
Has rave reviews its own thread especially the Clone version by Coppervapes its great i own 2 buying a 3rd one soon ,
You can choose a dual deck option but small to build on
Single coil version is Coppervapes you get w Airflow pins can get a 1.3mm one for 1£ extra
great flavours restriced Airflow of MTL
Larger space to build since single setup ,
Has various tank sizes an accessories available for it, nano tank size SS tank ect
