anything plugged in can catch fire. House wiring alone can catch fire.

I wouldn't leave an e-cig in the charger longer than recommended by your manual. Excess heat will shorten the life of electronic equipment.

I just set my stove timer when I'm charging batteries. My 510 chargs in about an hr and 15 mins.

Some batteries take 3 hours to charge, so I'd go with your manual

Its amazing the contradicting info on this forum.. Ive read in quite a few threads here that there is a built in safety feature with this chargers that when the light goes green, the charger stops charging.. therefor, it would be perfectly safe to keep it going for as long as you want.. Although, as Need2Quit said, anything electrical Can potentially catch fire. I think what it really comes down to is paranoia. Or rather the fact that most people these days seem to be overly paranoid about every little thing. If you are really worried about it and Need to charge over an extended period of time, put the thing in your sink or tub (obviously making sure its dry and dont have a leaky faucet).. As far as I know, ceramic/porcelain, or whatever sinks are made of, doesnt burn.

EDIT:

err, I guess I should maybe explain the whole sink thing, for those that might not understand.. If you truly think the thing will catch fire and its in your sink, tub, then at least it will not burn down your house, if by some amazing fluke the thing actually does ignite.

I don't think anyone here claims to be an expert? {looks around}
Ok, well, maybe a few do.
IMO..The ecig contradicts itself on its own...:D
Why are we worried about fires? Because they are made in China? Im not worried about fires- there are a lot of stuff plugged in around the house from China. I think my house was even made in china. My American flag was too. Just like our military's uniforms are...
Seriously- do you guys not leave your cell phone charges plugged in?
I don't understand the worry.

I really dont think it had anything to do with where it was made, but rather everything to do with the fact that it is an electrical device.

The worry?.. its called paranoia. Some people have issues with this 'demon', and its tough to overcome.

Good for your power bill, I guess? :)

lol, maybe, although I really dont think thats an issue either.. I mean, like I said, from what ive read about these things, they have a safety cutoff, so the only thing being powered is a tiny LED light, which I really doubt would increase your power bill. Or rather, unplugging it when its done isnt going to save you any money heh.

If you want to do an "unattended" battery charge then I suggest using a timer plug-in like you see for turning lights on while you're away on vacation. Then set the timer for the prescribed number of hours your battery needs to charge.

Thanks for the tip, very useful to prevent the possibility of over charge.

well F.Y.I . just in case we have forgotten why do manuels say first charging should be 4,8,12 hrs when the light turns green a long time before that aloted first charge time is done? if it did completely stop chaarging when the light turns green ,what is the sense ? P.S. I do use a timer myself JUST IN CASE LOL! most electronics tell you to unplug when not in use & i believe they wouldsuggest to not leave anything charging when you can not supervise it you know be around and alert.

Do people tell you that you look like "Denny" from the show Grays Anatomy?
You're a dead ringer in that pic in your avatar. :D

I have a theory that the extended early charges are not really charges at all. When the green LED illuminates, the charger and the battery soon cool. In fact, the batteries nor the charger actually get really warm at all, in my experience.

If not charging, what is it? How about a rest? The instructions for my batts said to charge for five hours x three days to condition the batteries. OK - they did run for about three hours the first few times before the green light came on. What if the remaining two hours plugged in were just to give the battery a rest before I started using it?

The other interesting thing to me is how quickly the batteries charge. I have a couple that pop out in about 1.5 hours - none take more than two hours. Did you know that we don't actually get to discharge a lithium-ion battery, at least not completely?

Somewhere around 2 volts, the battery will stop powering the atomizer and request a charge. The charger then pumps it up from 2 volts to about 4.2 volts. That's what we actually wait for, and that doesn't take very long.
