Roux is the daddy of both gravies & sauces, at least in my pot or pan.

My grandmother, on my father's side, was the daughter of an Italian immigrant; she made gravy. (On Sunday, of course)
My mother was Polish and Hungarian; she made sauce.
I make sauce, but only because if you say "gravy" here , folks think "aah Bisto".
