I just received my Screwdriver MkII from Totally Wicked and I'm having a big problem with it. It seemed to have what I want (yes, I know I could have gotten a different model for cheaper, but I just really wanted a Screwdriver and I wanted a complete kit.) But, when I opened it up and assembled it, I couldn't get the darn switch to go down. It's like the switch is permanently wedged into place. As soon as I put a battery in the atomizer heated up and turned red - I wasn't touching anything! When I put another battery in, the atomizer wouldn't do the heat-up thing anymore, I guess that must have been a fluke? I'm so confused. I actually didn't believe that the end button was supposed to be the button at first because it won't move.

I sent them a message asking for an exchange because nothing in the instructions or online that I've found has mentioned this issue. Am I just ......ed and did I miss something?

I've lurked on this forum for weeks now trying to learn stuff, I've used the search first for all of my questions and I haven't had to ask a question myself (except one private message to someone about their Chuck), but now I'm stumped! I have a Joye 510 and I've tried a few disposable models but the battery life of the 510 really leaves something to be desired. Thank you!

Hi,

I can't be much help, but to give you a little reassurance. I've owned one of the Screwdrivers, made by Trog, for a year with no problems. It's my favorite, by the way. But mine has a plastic button and I just read on TW's site that they have gone to a metal switch which sounds to me like yours is just stuck. The reassurance part is that you have one of the best PV's made and TW will quickly correct the problem.

Like I said, no real help but don't give up on the SD. It is what got me off analogs after 42 years of coffin nails! Best of luck!

P.S. I'm sure one of the mod guys or someone will reply soon with a real answer.

Hey thanks HK45! I appreciate the reassurance. I'm glad to know that people really do enjoy it. I'll admit as my own failing I get a bit leery posting on forums sometimes because of past experience on other types of forums - people always tend to answer your question with something unhelpful like "Oh, well I know you just spent your money on xyz, but you really should have bought zyx instead." and not help you find the answer to your question. I'll reiterate that's my own failing, like I said, not any sort of experience I've found on here! It seems like people are really pretty helpful and nice on here though and I've gotten an overabundance of information just browsing around.

Anyway, I tried to post on the technical issues forum but I guess I'm too new to make a post on there! Thanks for the advice though :)

Okay, so just to clear this up, I AM in fact ......ed. I thought that the cap that covers the screwdriver's button was in fact the button itself. In my defense, I tried both pushing it in (obviously wouldn't work) and pulling it out and was putting so much force in I was afraid it was going to break it. If anyone has this problem, well, it's very possible that you're silly like me!

Just as an aside, HK45 (or does anyone) happen to have experience with the 510 versus the SD? It seems like the SD is going through juice really quickly. After about 5-10 puffs I'm putting new juice on. I got a box of freebie filled carts with the unit and I had to top them off after only 10 puffs - which feels the same as one real cigarette to me. Usually when I used a pre-filled (or a completely refilled with syringe) cart on a 510 I would about get 3-5 "analog cigarettes" worth. Anyone had this experience?

LOL - I was about to post "have you taken the cap off?" - good job I read the rest of the thread.

IMPORTANT - a bit of advice - get into the habit of checking the button is fully screwed on when you change the battery. If you look up the inside of the SD you can see a screw at the back end of the button - stick your fingernail in it and turn the black button to ensure it is tight. They can come unscrewed - with odd results like losing the spring or the SD heating up.

(Apart from that, I have found the SD Mk2 to be rock solid, just like my Mk1(s) )

Hey Bot,

The Screwdriver is a thirsty beast. No way around it with the battery power and vapor production. Make sure you are letting the atty enough time between drags to wick the fluid from the cart. Also, right or wrong, I always put two or three drops right in the atty. It seems to make the vape last longer before I have to refill.

P.S. LOL!!! My SD didn't come with a cap cover. Glad it was an easy fix.

Hey, thanks for this tip. I had this happen last night right when I was replacing the battery and I had read your reply then. The cap was already halfway off! Thanks to you I realized I hadn't broken it.

Hey, that's good to know. I've been just dripping on the atomizer the last few times. It seems like filling the cart doesn't seem to help that much but I probably shouldn't be doing that just out of my own laziness. I can't really find any info about this 'direct dripping' that people talk about on here. I've googled and when I tried a search I found way way way too many threads that didn't appear related to wade through. Is that all it is, putting drops on the atomizer, or am I missing something? On the big "everything you wanted to know about vaping" thread I saw tools for dripping which leads me to believe it isn't just that simple. Well, I'm still confused, but I'm going to start refilling my carts as normal in the morning. Thanks everyone!

Its recommended that you use a proper screwdriver to screw the button on tightly. Hold the button with one hand and put the screwdriver in the SD and tighten as much as you can to keep the button in place and stop it from coming loose and falling off. Don't use threadlock or glue though as it messes up the electrical contacts.
If you just tighten by hand then remember to check it every now and again so it doesn't fall off ;-) It should stay put by using a screwdriver to tighten the switch. Happy vaping.

I only fill and top up carts on my SD, never liked direct dripping as it would leak out the atty too much for me. If your fillers in good condition you should be able to top up with 4 or 5 drops when needed. Or else you can start looking into cart mods, but theres a million different ideas lol.

You put a screwdriver into the Screwdriver - nice!!

Yep :D so you have to buy another screwdriver now, hehe good excuse hey.
The switches are easily replaceable but that also means they can come loose :p i've seen trog mention tightening up with a tool for tightening screws :D should solve the issue lol

Sorry your having problems with your new SD, I just received mine on Thursday, and it is by far outdoing the other 4 that I have. Had problem figuring out how to attach end cap with the lanyard to the base of the SD, that is the cap that protects the atty activator, it's a bit tricky however it can be done, glad I stuck with it.
One thing I would like to see is a change in the outer casing, it's to slippery, other than that I give it a high rating.
Stay with the SD, you'll enjoy it.

Haytoni,

Once the finish on the SD is handled awhile it becomes less slippery. Also, they do make a black matte finish model, although they always seem to be sold out!

@bot,

It's my understanding that the new SD's have a seal that makes it safe to drip.
Yes, you just put a couple of drops directly on the atty. Some say dripping shortens the atty life, others don't have a problem. As someone else advised, the TW forum would be very helpful. Also, there is a good post, with pics, in the "Ask the Experts" section. Check it out!

I'm actually pretty disappointed with my screwdriver after a few days. My mouth is full of juice right now and has been pretty much every time I've tried to vape in the last few days. It has a brand new atomizer and a new pre-filled cartridge. I've been getting a headache from all the hard pulls I have to make off of it just to get a mouthful of vapor. The button is so loose that I've found two cartridges melted inside the two atomizers that came with the thing and I left it as I left it on its side where I presumed the button was out. So I've already gone through those two atomizers that those cartridges were in. I'm pretty sure the charger is broken already - I put the battery in last night to charge and it still hasn't turned green, and before it charged within a couple of hours - and it's quite hot to the touch. I'd be willing to accept that maybe I did something wrong or made a stupid newbie mistake, but I'm still experiencing this on a prefilled cartridge with a new atomizer. I'm about ready to throw the whole thing out and give up on vaping because of it, frankly. I'm sick of my mouth full of nasty juice and headaches from sucking so hard. It feels like an exercise in futility.

And there it went again, ruined yet another atomizer and I left it sitting with the button out, making sure to check because this has happened 2 times to me already, yet apparently just the normal rattling from the speaker or walking or whatever caused it to make contact. This is pretty ridiculous. I don't know if I'm even willing to deal with the headache of trying to get this replaced.

When using an e-cig (of any sort) you should take long slow pulls on it - not sharp hard draws like many do with a tobacco cig. That is probably what you are having problems with (if you are using a 901 cartridge, I'm sure than is what it is).

Have you tightened your button up as described in this thread? What you are describing comes from the button being mostly unscrewed. A fully discharged battery will take about 8+ hours before the light goes green - but the charger shouldn't be getting warm... If that is the case call TW and get a replacement.

Just my two cents...
