Before I decided to start this thread I spent much time searching through ECF for similar situations. Found one or two instances that are a bit similar to my situation but otherwise hardly anything.

A person in my household has complained about me vaping. This is not a complaint about smell of a particular juice. I do have a couple of smelly juices that I'm very aware of, but I wasn't vaping them. I was vaping two light juices, mixing 100% VG and 50/50. This person was at least 6 ft. away from me, in another room sectioned off by curtains.

Their complaint is that the vaper was hanging in the air, not circulating and was irritating their throat. It wasn't a complaint about juice smell.

Most things I've read is that unless someone is right beside you when you're vaping, or you're vaping a very strong smelling juice, it wouldn't be noticeable. I've also read about PG sensitivity, which could be a possibility, but again most people claim that it wouldn't bother someone via second-hand vaper.

So last night I was with some friends and I asked them if they could smell anything (I do ask on occasion). One friend said they could smell "dry ice" like a fog machine smells. And to me that was bingo - that's what the complaint is about.

Has anyone experienced this? I'm not sure whether it's psychosomatic, an extreme PG sensitivity, or maybe they're right and the vaper is kind of heavy and chemical like.

I vape right in the car with my wife and most of the time when I ask her what flavor I'm vaping, she says she didn't even smell it and I have to blow some at her. It's true that sometimes it can hang about it a bit of a fog, but I think you'd have to be super-sensitive for it to bother you, other than the psychological aspect.

Sounds more like someone who just wants to complain for complaining's sake.

Also, fog/smoke machines run on a mixture of PG and Triethylene Glycol.....and sometimes VG. So, really we're just putting personal fog machines into our mouths.

Fog machines don't generally use dry ice .. some folks smell sensitivity is better than others .. some folks like to complain for whatever reason .. if your question is can some smell a PV in use, the answer is yes ..

I thought a lot of fog macines use fluids very much like PG. If that is the case, then they may simply be associating the smell of PG with dry ice. After all, dry ice is simply carbon dioxide.

VG being thicker, I have seen it hang around a lot longer than my other juices. I have also noticed a slight residue on my windshield when 100% VG is being used heavily in the car over time.

Also, when I was steath vaping with my lavatube ( lol wut?? LIES! ok vaping ) with jokesmoke 2.0 ( or maybe it was my ry4/vanilla mix) someone coming into the room (20x40) about 10 minutes or more later ,on the far side ask who the ..... was eating cotton candy and not sharing...

That's been my experience...

I'm realizing that this appears to be an issue with "feeling" the vaper in the air, not "smelling" anything. It's hanging there, the air isn't 100% clear. Not sure about the proximity though, thought it would dissipate before moving 6ft.

I'm finding that 100% VG is not my thing - it's even irritating my throat and is too heavy for me. Could just be the particular juices, all made by the same vendor. So changing to all 100% VG is not an option.

A bit disappointing to say the least - was not expecting any issues with vaping indoors. This person rents a room from me, and now I'm wondering which is more important, vaping or $. I want to vape inside because it's such an added bonus and helps tremendously with quitting smoking.

You could try blowing out your vapour forcefully....this should tear apart the actual visible vapour. Of course, it is still in the air, but it isn't visible. I do this in the movie theatre or on a busy bus for stealth vaping.

This way, she won't see it?

btw, Oriana, did you get any Trippy Tips this weekend?

Well he didn't see it when he came out to complain - he knew I was vaping, asked me if I was vaping more at that time. He's in a separate room and had curtains drawn across the entrance (not heavy curtains but curtains nonetheless). He could "feel it in his lungs, it was irritating his throat and hanging heavy in the air".

I started stealth vaping after that but really don't want to stealth vape all the time.

No tips this weekend, wasn't around at the right time, but also didn't see anything I really loved. How about you?

Well, that's rather unreasonable of him. Perhaps you should tell him that the alternative is that you'll smoke analogs inside? I mean, it's not like he has a legal basis to complain. If he is renting from you, tell him to suck it up or beat it. I'm sure you can find another renter. Or even ask him to get a fan....

It's like my buddy's ....... of a wife..... I got him to quit smoking and start vaping. She HATED him smoking....so much that he actually had hid it from her for over 2 years before she finally caught him. Now that he vapes, she gives him a really hard time about vaping and is a huge ..... about it.

Some people just like to ..... and have their way no matter what.....sometimes it's best to just cut those people out.

I actually went a little tip crazy this weekend.....There were two sales. I got my first donut in the first one and then got 4 more tips in the second one.

People can be allergic to vapor, but they will also be allergic to many other things. My personal opinion is that this person hates smoking and can't get the idea through their head that it isn't harmful to bystanders.

OTOH, you didn't say whether this was family or whether it was a house or apartment. If it's family, you have to be considerate. If it's someone who shares an apartment for convenience, I'd be looking to move. If it's a wife or a girlfriend, then you pretty much have to find common ground.

I'd hate to have to go outside and vape. That would be too much like when I smoked.

i truly believe this is an issue still to come against us vapers: second vaping

- imagine there will soon (well...) be more of us, visible in public places or where ever - strangers will offend you out in the street, yelling at you:

"Do You vape CHINESE liquid close to me?!!? Help...! Cancer....! Dogs, eaten alive!..."

no truly, we have to face that. therefore i am always looking for new scientific research results concerning second vaping. we have to be prepared...

Ya know, now that I think about it... some tenants upstairs sit on the front porch to smoke, and it's right in front of his room, and he's never complained in the summer. And he's never been a big anti-smoking type person. No allergies either. He does have some throat sensitvity from some childhood issue, not sure will ask.

Not family, not partner but an old standing acquaintance who is pretty easy to live with otherwise (no one is perfect). While I can't discount a sensitivity to the vaper, I do suspect that he's making more of an issue out of it than is necessary, like it's an invasion on his air space.
