Seeking advice from anyone who has tried several types of ecigs

I just received my first ecig yesterday. After reading may posts on this forum, I decided to go with the DSE801. It is an automatic. I thought all 801s had a manual switch when I purchased this. I am not getting the throat hit I was hoping to get. The vapor production seems to be OK. I did find that if I tilt it downward when vaping that I don't get juice in my mouth. Still, I am left not feeling like I got a nicotine fix when I vape, and I want an analog!

I would like to hear from anyone who has tried different brands and types, and which one will give me the best overall experience in your opinions. Maybe it's just a matter of getting a different atty for my 801? I think I have a high bridge atty, although I'm not sure how to tell since I have nothing to compare it with. I don't think I want to use any kind of mini ecig because of the inconvenience of either refilling carts or putting new ones in often.

Advice on which model ecig (or atty that will work with my 801) would be greatly appreciated. Like I said, I just want to give up analogs altogether. If I am feeling less than satisfied after vaping, I know I'll find myself buying analogs.

I chewed nicotine gum for a while and that really took away my nicotine craving, but my jaw got sore from chewing so much. I tried the lozenges but they were nasty tasting. The patch leaves sticker marks on my skin which are hard to scrub off in the shower. I don't want to give up nicotine because I like it too much! ;) But I do want to feel as though I'm getting the nicotine I crave...and without the stinky, unhealthiness of smoking analogs.

Can anyone help me with this?

Also, if anyone knows of a place for me to view a video on how to drip, that would be helpful. I don't want to ruin my equipment by filling too much or by putting the liquid in the wrong place! LOL

Thanks in advance for your help!

manual batteries make a giant difference,

e-cigs take practice..........if you're getting a lot of juice in your mouth draw slower(not like a cigarette)

after a few days of vaping if you're still not satisfied a jump up in nic will do you good, but don't expect a miracle or rush yourself. No ones starts out smoking 2 packs a day. It may take some time to find the right juice, nic, cig

manual 510, and vp2 from vaprlife.............both us 14500 batteries with manual button

great vapor and control in both

I was a 2-3 pack smoker for twenty years. Vaped for a week and then jumped from 18mg to 36mg and never looked at another cig. The body adjusted down and then the jump up sealed the deal for me. It was still 3 weeks vaping before I really got the draw perfected. Primer puffs before the draw help on auto batts though

a lot of people just vape their cigs away as well. I was an accidental quitter. Just started vaping and went to 10 cigs to 4.5 to 2.5 to 1 to 1 and quit because they tasted bad. A lot less pressure that way. I actually started vaping to smoke more. I loved cigs. I also never planned on giving up vaping or nicotine and after 3 mos I can vape 0 nicotine any day I want.

You'll see a wire mesh thingy inside the 801 atty. That is called the atomizer bridge and where you drip. Place about 2 drops on it and suck slowly......just enough to light the led.

The 510 atty is much hotter than the 801 if you want more throat hit. You can attach this atty to the 801 battery with an adapter available at altsmoke:

AltSmoke | Personal Vaporizer 801 Battery Adapter - Mod Shop

Then you will have to use either 510 or 901 cartridges with the new atty.

These and manual 801 batts are available from Arno at:

eCigarettes and eLiquid from Awesome Vapor

I tried the 510 and some pen style ecig I got from a smokeshop. The 510 got me off the analogs but was just too much fussing for me. I have been using the VaporKing manual from Vapor4Life and it has made a HUGE difference. It is a two piece and I have to say that I am getting consistant taste and throat hit without the dripping and topping off carts all the time.

Some people love the 510 and 801's and 901's and even come to view it as kind of a hobby. I just wanted to pick it up and go, that's just me. So I guess it just depends on what you are looking for. The cartomizers are a bit more expensive, but they also last way longer and are easily refilled.

Whatever gets you off the cigs is ok in my book, but for ease of use and long lasting taste and throat hit, I don't think you can beat the VaporKing.

Good luck and happy vaping to you! ;)

How long do the batts last on that model, Jenjen?

The regular manual batteries last about 4 hours, but the new extra longs (which are killer by the way!) last about 6. This is with pretty heavy vaping, if you don't vape as much they last longer. I think the extra longs have a bit more power to them too, almost as much as the USB passthrough. I don't really care for the auto batteries, but some people like them. The manuals are just awesome!

I started out with a super-mini then a 901, modena (like a 901 but not) and progressed into the 801 style (Rio - V9) and for a long time used a pass through with the apc battery back-up, tried to buy different type of atty's and could never get a decent hit from the high bridge, stuck with the rio att's which I think are R4072 (not sure, they are on vapornine) they never dissapointed me. A few months ago I ventured and purchased a stick, could have saved allot of money trying that first (of course it wasn't out when I started!) I knew that e cigs were for me, I just had a hard time having to change out batts all the time and being near a charger. They are coming out with some decent mods now that have longer batt life. I did buy one of those high volt mods and I was unable to get any kind of satisfaction (probably doing something wrong!) So, I am very comfortable with my stick that bat last a good while and when its low and on the road I just hook up with the usb and charge while I vape....lifes great! for me nothing really compares. sorry for the ramble, like Happily, I did not intend on quitting analogs was just sick and tired of freezing my *** off and stinking to boot. I try to smoke analogs now it it taste like I've licked an ashtray. Long-short the quest is well worth the effort, you will find the right one, they keep introducing better and better buying new ones is pretty addicting

When you're describe not getting juice in your mouth when you tilt the e-cig down, is a symptom that you've overfilled or gotten too much juice in your atomizer/cart.

When vaping you should be able to produce large plumes of vapor at any angle without getting juice in your mouth or hearing a "gurgling" sound.

Slack of the juice a bit, take your cart off and dry out the intake hole(s) on the sides. Take a few drags off of just the atomizer until you taste a dry (but not burnt) flavor.

Also blow out your cart - the method is outlined various hundreds of times in the threads here, just scan a thread or two or do a search and you'll find it.

Once the cart is dry and clean from the preceding steps then fill your cart (or get a prefilled one) and put it back on. Make sure the cart is filled properly and not over filled. The filler material should be moist but you shouldn't have ANY pooled liquid. If you can flick the cart like a cigarette and liquid comes out you've overfilled it.

Slap the cart back on and wait 30 second to a minute (you are letting the bridge pick up liquid for vaporizing, called "wicking"). Vape away. Take longer slower drags than you would with an analog. If you primarily pull vapor into your mouth and then inhale into your lungs try the direct lung inhale, it creates a slower and less strong drag which produces more vapor.

I use both the 801 and 510. There are good/bad things about both of them.

Any e-cig takes some time/practice to use it well. Liquid in the mouth is the hardest thing to figure out for most. Porphy is right. Overfilling will cause 80% of the problems with any model. The other 20% is not having enough liquid. Both problems will give you poor vapor.

I have developed the habit of gently blowing into my mouthpiece before lighting up the battery to blow any liquid back down on to the bridge and out of the mouthpiece and cartridge side walls. This really helps greatly to eliminate the amount of liquid I get in my mouth should I overfill or spill down the side of the cart when filling. This also helps to move liquid down from the cartridge on to the bridge above the atomizer.

Viewing how an atomizer is constructed really helped me to get a grip on how the liquid works and is vaporized correctly. Also how to 'hit' the e-cig so you get consistent vapor. Here are a few good threads which may help you:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/general-e-smoking-discussion/16292-how-inhale-tip-consistent-vapor.html

And, there is a good diagram of an atomizer, as well as a ton of info. for new vapers here:

Nora, Excuse my ignorance please. By a "stick", are you referring to the Janty I keep hearing everyon talk about? I'm still very new to all of this. I did put a fresh, fully-charged battery on mine and topped off with some 24mg drops. That made it better. I guess it will just take some time for me to get used to not having that harsh smoke hitting my tonsils! vapor is much different than smoke (in a good way). My throat is probably just not used to me being so kind to it!

Thanks for everyone's response here. I will keep trying different things and mainly practicing the act of vaping vs. smoking and I'm sure I will get the hang of it!

Actually Porphy, when I got the juice in my mouth was when I opened my brand new 801 and put a sealed cart in it and used it for the first time. It must have been the way I was drawing because it was not a topped-off cart...it was brand new. I'm getting the hang of it though. A couple quick puffs and then a slow, long draw is working for me, as so many suggested on here. I will hold onto the info you offered though for the future, as I am sure there will be times when I will overfill. I'm starting out just adding 3 or 4 drops at a time to be safe.

Just adding to what JenJen has already posted. I am pulling from my own response written to a poster with a similar question in the "seriuosly" sticky in the vapor4life subforum. I have tried many of the recommended models. Here are some high level observations about the VaporKing (kr808D-1):

1. Verses 510s = equal throat hit, equal warmth, bigger battery, more consistent vapor for longer

2. Verses 801 = warmer throat hit, battery lasts as long, cartomizers seem to hold as much juice w/o leaking all over the danged place

3. Verses 901 = equal flavor, samed size battery but it seems to last longer for some reason and cartomizers last longer than the carts

4. Lady pipe = same exact response as the 801, except the battery lasts longer (which makes sense since the attys and carts are pretty much the same as the 801)

BTW - I am in NC as well. There are a ton of us here! Perhaps because we grew up in tobacco country!

Hey PhoenixRising-

Thanks for the great info. The more I hear about the VaporKing, the more I like what I hear. I think I will try that next. Any idea if the parts are interchangeable with my 801? I like the idea of a warmer throat hit. I don't feel any warmth with my 801. That might make it feel more realistic.

I have noticed there are a lot of NC Vapers here! I'm sure it does have something to do with how so many were raised around tobacco fields.

Thanks again!

Yup. The Janty stick, for me nothing compares at this point. It's small, doesn't look like a cig and I vape constantly without frustration. Occasionally, my throat gets pretty dry but I always have water around even before vaping. I have heard people make remarks about the harshness, I guess I just don't notice it as much. What flavors do you vape? I tried the fruits, grape and peach were ok my favorite is watermelon. So far I find clove, hilton, RY4, and watermelon have great flavor and not to bad on the throat. French pipe is good but I find that too harsh for me. To me the quest has been fun. I think you might like the vapor king, just before I bought the stick I bought the nebula from V9 which I think is the same, but I think VP4L also carries a pass thru for the vapor king, you might think about that and a battery back up like the kennsington. But that's me I LOVE LOVE LOVE my vapes and want it constantly on command.
