Long time vaper and member here, I have a scenario I'm struggling with.

Temp control has caught my eye. I was not too interested prevoiusly as I had no need for the low wattage of dna 40. I know there are other tc mods out there but ive grown accustomed to quality and craftsmanship over the years. So i'm debating on preordering a certain dna 200.

What I want to know is if TC and nickel is all its cracked to be. I really want to give nickel a shot, i great things compared to kanthal. I'm not in the market to purchase a random mod with TC just to try it out, I'd rather go all in.

Is flavor that much better? Vapor production? Life in general?

I must add that i'm quite content with my main mod, a hexohm 2.1 and dripper usually running about 70-90 watts around .4ohm, so this purchase would be less about the overhead wattage wise the chip provides and more about the features...ie: TC, instant ramp up time, ability to use nickel wire etc...

Thanks for any replies!

meh... i'd sit on it if you're happy with your current setup. not that it's bad, just not worth it imho. i used nickel for about two weeks, then went right back to kanthal; nickel was just too inconvenient (for me, anyways). you can't dry burn it, and it's really soft (ie, you can't scrape gunk off without messing up your coils), so i ended up having to rebuild every time the coils got gunked up.

I'm waiting out TC till next spring. Mods are popping up everywhere and prices are falling with the competition. I'm sure there will be some other latest and greatest by then anyway. My Sig.150 still makes me happy with a couple of good tanks and a dependable dripper. There just wasn't that I've gotta have TC it's a different world experience for me the technology has a lot to offer but not enough for me to make the change now. Still a lot of room for growth.

TC works flawlessly if you setup the TCR curves for other alloys aside from Ni200. Though aside from not having to do a million wraps with nickle, I dont see why you would need to considering this thing can fire .02

For Ni200 and SweetSpotVapor's Ti (since they're the only ones who did their homework and provide the .csv file that gives you the true curve of the alloy they made) they TC is flawless. 200W is not necessary of course for most people, but its nice to know this thing has that overhead and can handle such a high load. It also goes to future proofing a VW mod for a while. The FW updates is also a nice thing if they need to add certain features. Even in power mode, this thing hits really nice and quick at the push of a button.

Some people use TC and love it, some like myself have tried it and found it disappointing. Nickel and titanium wires have health issues associated with them which in my opinion have not been properly addressed. Nickel can also be awkward to work with. TC generally gives a cooler vape which doesn't suit everyone. Based on your current setup you may be one of these.
I suggest you give it a try and see for yourself. Do some searching here on ECF as it has been extensively discussed and as stated there are lots of good low cost TC capable devices on the market now.

One of the greatest benefits of choosing a DNA 200 device is one that is not spoken much about: The excellent customer service of Evolv. They take care of their vendors. In turn, vendors take care of their customers knowing that chip-related issues will be warrantied with little hassle from Evolv. The DNA 200 Early Adopters Forum is staffed by Evolv employees and is a recommended hangout for those with or those considering DNA 200 devices.

What I want to know is if TC and nickel is all its cracked to be.
Forget about nickel wire. It's all about titanium (my personal preference), stainless steel and NiFe 48/52 right now.

Is flavor that much better? Vapor production? Life in general?
The answer to all three is: Possibly and more likely than not. What a DNA 200 device in tandem with eScribe can do is inform you of how the various variables and relationships between your mod/atomizer/temps/power/vaping style work together. Visually, if need be. By tuning those variables to find your own personal sweet spots, you end up improving your overall vaping experience.

If you don't dry fire, I would theorize it's safer than dry fired kanthal tbh. Also the flavor and heat can be gotten if you build with more cool mass. The only reason kanthal seems hotter and more flavorful is because we are going much beyond the presumed 430 degrees most people keep on the TC devices they have set to, and don't take into account then rapid cooling by the time it reaches taste buds after being hit by raw air from the AFC hole. The reason I would go for it is because TC is being done much more accurately and you can build thicker wire now since the dna200 will fire super sub ohm builds.

yes I would agree that you should not rush into a DNA 200 purchase not so great you're not getting much in the way you're getting a 200 watt box mod for $200 + & - $40 depending on the model you're getting and I do not recommended I stick with my snow wolf I'm going to stick with it until the version 2 was released in February possibly possibly not many people love the segelas does the 120 what does the 150 watt and those are the only ones that you need that you don't need to go past 150 watts the 120 watt sigelei is very affordable I just recommend grabbing that calling it a day and getting a nice tank and forgetting about that evolve ship DNA 200 stock pile of crap they will never perfect them they are all very filthy physically mechanically and the software is pitiful not available for Mac OS you have to be kidding me ok so those are my two cents I mean this is a form for everybody to chip to pitch in and I'm very against this DNA 200 stuff it's a big issue so I'm glad that you brought it up I cannot convince you to purchase one I can try to convince you to stay away from even thinking about purchasing one throwing your money away just get something that you just put some batteries in and press the button no software updates alright that is with work for me and I will not really ever buy something with is required firmware update this it makes no sense to me it is a vaporizer for goodness sakes

I love TC. I'm a flavor chaser, and am not really after competition clouds.

My first TC device was an SX Mini M-Class. The TC just works, and it gives considerably better flavor then non-TC. I use both pre-made coils and build myself. I don't see myself going back to non-TC.

The DNA 200 took it to the next level. The profiles are great as is the menu, but to really set it up, you would want to get Escribe installed. Some of the devices come preprogrammed with common atty's, but the real benefit is the customization.

The current DNA 200 devices seem to run between $120 and $200 for the mass produced and more for the custom stuff.

You should buy one!

I'm 8wks into vaping (and not smoking). started off like everyone else and just got basics to help curve the urge to smoke. then, I went to sub ohm tank and although I was getting a better vape it wasn't satisfying my need for that throat hit. Getting enough power to get the "hit" I was looking for then created too much heat for my liking. I went to a TC Device and that was resolved. a week ago, just for the hell of it, I filled my aspire Nautilus with my fav juice and put it on the ISTICK 50w I started out with and it just didn't taste the same. I liked it before but TC just brings everything up a notch --IMO.
All my coils are Ni200 or Ti and looking forward to SS. I don't even use my EVic VTC in any mode other than TC now. I am also looking to move on to a DNA200 Mod just for the optimized TC experience.
