Hi Rachel. CONGRATULATIONS on making the switch!
I would say the only difference between us is that I used that stench as an added incentive to never go back.
My office is a designated room in the house. While I smoked, here is what I had done to reduce the odor:
1. I was able to keep the windows open for ventilation (Florida)
2. Used an air purifier.
3. At night, a large fan was left running facing the open window so as to pull the air from the room and push it outside.
4. The door had self-adhesive strips and door seals fitted so as to prevent the smoke from reaching the rest of the house.
Despite my efforts, the odor always reached the rest of the house regardless of what I tried. Fortunately, after washing the curtains and leaving the windows open for a few days, things improved dramatically. I believe the fact that the furniture is leather had a lot to do with that.
I was not as lucky with my office, unfortunately. I left the window open for over a month and the smell did not fully and truly leave. Only after the walls were cleaned and painted did the intensity of the odor drop to barely noticeable. A microfiber sofa bed still has traces of the odor despite being sprayed countless times. It is in the mattress which has been cleaned and left to sit in the sun a few times.
I had an old car which I traded in about 6 months ago. I
vape heavily in the new car and no one has ever made mention of any type of odor whatsoever. I still get that "new car small" when I turn on the ac
Depending upon how heavily you smoked, it will take a while before the smell is completely gone. Since the odor serves to attract you back to smoking, I would do everything possible to eliminate it ASAP.
All the best!
