Something is wrong. The only place you want to get hot is the coil. Some of the heat will be conducted from the coil through the atty and into the mod. It hsould be hottest, warmest really, near the atty and get cooler the further you get away. It is also a sign you are vaping too hot or too much.

If some other part of the rig is getting hot there is a problem. The problem could be in the battery or the mod. You need another battery or mod to find out where the problem is. Does the problem move with the battery or stay with the mod?

Heat is not good for a battery. It damages it. A battery that has been heated will hold less of a charge and might have other problems. If the battery itself is causing it to heat up then there is an internal problem with the battery.

Since you have a mechanical mod you must use an ohm reader to check the resistance of your atty and use Ohm's law to figure out how many amps it is drawing and you need to know what you battery is capable of supplying.

Also, the peeling green plastic is a serious problem. The battery is a metal can full of chemicals with a positive top. The negative part is not just the bottom but the entire can. The green plastic is an insulator that keeps the battery side from touching the mod and firing without you pushing the button. You can use electrical tape to cover a small tear in the plastic, take all the plastic off and use shrink tubing, for electrical projects, to build a new one, or throw the battery out. A battery with a damaged wrap is dangerous.

If you have an ohm meter with leads, not just one that the atty screws in, you can check the resistance of the button. It should be very low, almost non existant.

How to Spot Fake Sony Batteries

Sony Real vs Fake.jpg

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US.

* RTD Vapor
* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics

This was from a post by Baditude (our resident battery/safety expert). Battery Basics for Mods
- choose the safest and right battery for your applications here. Includes a list of name brand, high-drain, safe-chemistry batteries with mAh & amp ratings in 18350, 18490/18500, and 18650 sizes.

And this regarding some of the purple Efest batteries: Purple Efest Batteries not as Advertised

I too have the sentinel m16. Yes the button gets HOT because of the spring. You should try replacing the spring with a more conductive one, cleaning the switch assembly, or do like I did and get a better mod. The Sentinel now is a piece of "artwork" to be gazed upon and admired. The Stingray is for vaping.

Now it's possible you have some other issues (bad battery, short, to low a resistance coil) but that switch is definitely the prime suspect. I also have the Atom Mod and while perfect in every other way, it too suffers from a 'hot button' and is now mostly used as decoration.

There are mods which are good to look at, and mods which work well. Know which you've bought.

Good mod and Good Battery but I would suggest building a little higher than .2 as mentioned above while the AW might be able to handle it (fully charged) you are pushing the envelope at .2

Decided to give the ole sentinel one last chance today. Built a EHPro Kayfun Lite Plus V2 to 0.71 ohms and popped in a good battery. And took it to work. She vaped like a champ all day. However, when I finally made it home I realized that the battery was much lower than if I'd been using a Stingray or Nemisis.

Bottom line, if you like it, use it. There is resistance somewhere in the switch assembly that makes it not hit as hard and makes the battery seems to 'die' quicker.
