hello i'm a newbie for about 65 days off from analogs. started with gripper and moved on to provari mini with protank and other clearos. i am in the stage to decide to move up to RBAs such as z-atty pro or odysseus maybe ithaka. money is not on issue as i had 2 packs of analogs before. to make it short, should i go first with Genesis type RSST or GG style? also could anybody explain the difference between silica wicks, glass wicks and SS mesh? and taste difference. thank you all.

hello, i do not have much info for you just wanted to express that i am in the same boat. i have been off analogs for 34 days and i bought a provari also i love it, but i have been using the vivi nova 2.5, 3.5ml tank. I have been doing research trying to figure out what rba to purchase so in the mean time i bought 3mm silica wick and 32g kanthal wire and started to rebuild the heads on my vivi nova, it has been great learning experience and the taste and hit from the silica wick is great no complaints. Some of my friends and peers are jedi masters at vaping and vape knowledge and they recommended that when i do buy my RBA to buy a couple different models in the mid price range just to get an idea what i will like before dropping $150 on a cadillac of RBA's. they also recommended that i try the mesh wick because they claim its a lot better experience with the RBA's. I have been looking at a couple of genesis type RBA's: the A8 $24.99 From www.highdesertvapes.com; the smoketeck Rsst $34.95 from www.litecigusa.net; the AC-9 $124.95 From www.shop.vapinaze.com; the Terminator-C $65- from Untitled Document and of course the Z-ATTY $139.00 from www.310vaper.com. Good luck in finding one that fits you hopefully i help some.

It's best to go with an American RBA such as the Zen or Ac 9. They use the top quality meterials that are safe and will deliver the best taste and performance. They have a larger up front cost but it will be worth it in the long run. The cheap china made copys will work! But you never really know what your getting.

You may also want to consider using a SS wick, they can't burn up like a silica wick therefor they may be safer for long term usage.

I should note that silica doesn't burn, but rather the juice itself that builds up gunk inside the fibers and around the coil itself. The same thing occurs with stainless steel mesh wicks, but I think less prone due to the wick absorbing some of the heat off the coil.

However, both will eventually gunk up and give that 'burnt' taste. Burned juice on silica can be torched off with a butane torch just as you would oxidize a mesh wick, and is also the method I use for cleaning both.

Silica, when choked, doesn't wick as quickly, and it's easy to dry out the wick around the coil, causing too much heat and frying what juice is there. Remember that silica wick will bloat when wet, and don't wrap your coil around silica super tight. Doubling over the silica in an RDA helps, I actually do it twice to get four strands inside the coil.
