People say drink less coffee for different reasons when we vape but after reading this should us newly converted smokers drink more coffee?? Its all about MAOI'S?? Any thoughts? We are missing this in our vape so to me makes sense to drink lots of coffee while we vape??

Monoamine oxidase (MAO) is a mitochondrial outer-membrane flavoenzyme involved in brain and peripheral oxidative catabolism of neurotransmitters and xenobiotic amines, including neurotoxic amines, and a well-known target for antidepressant and neuroprotective drugs. Recent epidemiological studies have consistently shown that coffee drinkers have an apparently lower incidence of Parkinson's disease (PD), suggesting that coffee might somehow act as a purported neuroprotectant. In this paper, "ready to drink" coffee brews exhibited inhibitory properties on recombinant human MAO A and B isozymes catalyzing the oxidative deamination of kynuramine, suggesting that coffee contains compounds acting as MAO inhibitors. MAO inhibition was reversible and competitive for MAO A and MAO B. Subsequently, the pyrido-indole (beta-carboline) alkaloids, norharman and harman, were identified and isolated from MAO-inhibiting coffee, and were good inhibitors on MAO A (harman and norharman) and MAO B (norharman) isozymes. beta-carbolines isolated from ready-to-drink coffee were competitive and reversible inhibitors and appeared up to 210 mug/L, confirming that coffee is the most important exogenous source of these alkaloids in addition to cigarette smoking. Inhibition of MAO enzymes by coffee and the presence of MAO inhibitors that are also neuroactive, such as beta-carbolines and eventually others, might play a role in the neuroactive actions including a purported neuroprotection associated with coffee consumption.

I dont drink any coffee so I should be good...have been smoke free for about 2 months. Don't notice any differences except food tastes so much better lol

I *think* the article was saying that the watchamajiggers (MAOs) that help prevent Parkinsons are prevalent in cigarettes and coffee - eliminating the smoking means we need to get our watchamajiggers from another source… like coffee.

Coffee=good.

It's been my understanding from what I've read that the MAOI's released from smoking are only trace amounts. Significant enough that some smokers "feel" the difference when they quit, but hardly in therapeutic amounts.

Coffee=meh. I drink my coffee black. Since I got my taste buds back I just don't find it as appealing as it once was.

Yep sorry guys only half the post sent from my mobile..

I added that maoi in cigs have an effect on how we react to the nicotine as in nicotine is a stimulant but also if mixed with other drugs becomes the opposite ...now cigs do have maoi's in them and its in small amounts but you can withdraw quite badly from them... so drinking more coffee can greatly help stopping smoking withdraw and so i think vape+ coffee =vape+maoi,'s and thats a good thing all round :)

I love my coffee.
That said I think for new Vapers increasing coffee intake right off would be a no-no.
We all(drinker/smokers) have sat around, coffee in one hand and a smoke in the other. There is a reason. Coffee pops you up and the cig calms you back down. All a matter of balance.
I'd suspect many new Vapers start out in an attempt to quit for a healthier life, then realize they have more choices.

I laid way back on coffee intake during my first 2 months Vaping. 1-2 cups a day opposed to my typical 4-10. It did seem to make a big difference, especially at work. I used to rush out for a quick coffee and 2 smokes on a 15 minute break. Without the coffee and Vaping it is more like a few draws and some good conversation with associates.

Now when working, I enjoy 3-4 cups a day total and when off............Back to my 10 with no withdrawals. :D

I would think that any increase in "stimulants" such as caffeine can help offset the decreased nicotine consumption. Maybe that is my experience, I find myself vaping less than I smoked. I think there is an initial euphoria that carries you through the first few weeks. Any positive move in your life, i.e. quitting analogs, is like a mini self esteem boost. Have some tea. Coffee is great, I'm a coffee snob, but it can dehydrate you since it has diarrhetic properties.
