Should we consider e-cigarettes the fifth great invention of China?

E-cigarette - Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia , they invented the e-cig...there's no way to deny that ;)

"The original inventor of the electronic cigarette concept was Ruyan and his first patent was registered in 2003." E-cigarette - Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The electronic cigarette concept first appeared in a patent acquired by Herbert A. Gilbert in 1963." Electronic cigarette - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is why quoting Wickipedia as some kind of infallible testimony is folly. It can't even get its own story straight.

Before we applaud China for inventing the ecig, let's wait a while for some definitive studies on safety. I know there have been studies, however tainted, but we still don't know what happens to vapers after 20 years of inhaling flavors meant to be ingested or PG and VG, which are meant to be topical, not heated and inhaled.

Call me a skeptic, but it's too early to have a party quite yet. In the 60s, the Kent Micronite filter was lauded as the ultimate tobacco cigarette filter. It's technology filtered fine particles and tars out of the smoke. People loved it ... until some started developing cancer from the asbestos it was made from. I hope vaping turns out to be the best and safest thing since sliced bread. Right now, all we can say is that it is probably better than smoking cigarettes.

If you want to die healthy don't smoke or vape...

A greater oxymoron I don't believe I've ever heard.

That aside, yes: don't vape—nor drink coffee or tea (or pretty much anything other than distilled water), nor eat meat of any sort or white rice or M&Ms or shellfish or white bread. Don't drive a car or ride in an airplane or take a shower. Statistically, you'll live long.

But will you have lived?
