Sigelei #19 Tips, tricks, and DON'Ts

Wow! Wow! Wow! I picked up a #19 a couple weeks ago on a whim. I had seen a couple of negative reviews but I just thought it was so nice and loved the weight and feel of it. I knew about modding it but I thought I would give it a go as is. I have only been vaping just over a month, so I am really new to all of this.

I also picked up a Kanger ProTank and tried it on the 19 and it was fairly disappointing. Not sure what res the coil was but it just wasn't pushing enough power. I tried it on an ego twist and it worked pretty well with the voltage up. Then I threw a CE2 clearomizer on the 19 and it actually vaped pretty well. I loved holding it but, man, was it ugly.

So tonight, I decided to come back to this thread and see what the simplest thing I could do to improve performance was. I was able to get the switch assembly apart fairly easily after a few tries. I had an extra o-ring I found, interestingly enough, under the drip tip of a CE2 and it fit perfectly on the post. Then I saw this thing about stretching the spring. That was counter to everything I had read about heating it to make it a little looser. I gave it a shot. Just pulled by hand till I felt it give a little, polished it with some steel wool and threw it back together.

Amazing difference! Everything I put on here is pushing hard and giving good vapor and not a single misfire yet. I am excited as hell right now. I should be hitting the sack but just can't put it down.

I want to eventually get the SG-1 kit and a decent RBA when I get a little brave about wrapping my own coils but for now I am pleased enough to not go out and buy something new.......for now.....

5 weeks vaping, 4 weeks & 2 days cigarette free and feeling like a champ!

That is pretty impressive. Five weeks in and you are in the mechanical club. Funny, once you get these things to hit that sweet spot, you never go back. IMO

Get an RSST or an AGA, some ceramic (or mesh?) and wire and be prepare to have a new hobby. Priceless.

Grendel, isn't it interesting that there are so many different ways to modify the switch and everyone has their favorite. After a couple mods I am in love with the switch. Mine was modded by softening the spring (opposite of yours) and relying on the magnet to counter the otherwise increasing pressure as you push down. I also added the braided copper wire mod and the button action is absolutely amazing now. After a couple weeks I still smile every time I push it.

I would echo others here. Get an RSST, 28awg kanthal, some mesh, watch a few videos, and you'll be in heaven. And save yourself some money and frustration "working your way up". The only thing I regret is that after trying 19/RSST combo (both modded), there is not much more to look forward to.

Very impressive. Took me about 6 months before I even considered a mech or RBA, but now everything else in my collection is collecting dust. For me it is the feeling of accomplishment that comes along with making something work and work well, which is more than I can say for anything I have taken out of the mailbox, charged / filled and vaped.
gdeal- the ceramic is working awesome with the ribbon and I'm suuuuuper thankful!!!

@ pastubbs - I appreciated that you took the time to verify the thread size.

Planning on ordering one this week and modifying the switch with a simple brass machine screw.
That's pretty much what I did, I used some steel thumb screws I had laying around but still much better then the magnets. I mean why go through the trouble of trying to remove the magnet from the brass post when you can just replace the post.

Same ol spring though. Sigelei doesn't seem to grasp the problem with the switch. That version will probably have a lot less voltage drop but it'll still need modding to avoid misfires it seems.

Sigelei haven't changed a thing on their part, these are just how Gary at celtic vapes requested them to be made, and will be exclusive to his shop, so kudos to Gary for going the extra mile for his customers

I saw the braided copper wire thing but, for whatever reason, that really intimidated me. Maybe next time I get a little adventurous ;-)

When checking mine with a meter, even after the spring mods and shortened throw i still get voltage drop fluctuation between 0.3V-0.6V depending on how i press the button. If i push straight down so the magnet pops up to engage with the battery, itll be around .6V loss, when contacting the sides i get .3V drop. My spring locks in between the delrin and lock ring when the ring is screwed up into operational mode so i know its making good contact with the switch bottom and the lock ring sidewall. I want to try that copper wool trick out that was posted earlier and see if that solve the issue. Some may like this actually as you now have a dual voltage setup at all times ha, lightly press the button for a lower voltage vape

Just do the copper wire mod, or stretch the spring, or open up the bottom of it so that it makes better contact with the body of the mod. It will fire 100% and voltage drop should stabilize.

They are all simple to do (once you get the switch apart), and make a world of difference.

Have fun

And on mine before I added a bit of NR nickel wire around the spring, a nice little shock sometimes to remind you not to chain vape.
