Some trusted hardware sites:

LiteCigUSA.net
Liberty-Flights.com
Cignot.com
Vapor4Life.com (their Vapor King is KR808D-1 but in fancier colors)
MyPVShop.com (not the best price but you can choose the color of each kit part)

If you buy a 510 or Ego buy a Joye-branded one because there are some substandard clone parts around.

Research what the actual popular models are - watch the Newbie videos in the sticky threads here, and follow the thread with Library in its title to a multipart guide. Ignore the super-minis in the guide unless you a an ultralights smoker willing to screw with tiny carts because super-minis usually don't satisfy anyone for more than a few weeks.

Juices sites - so many trustworthy and popular ones
FreedomSmokeUSA
Backwoods Brew
Velvet Vapors
Madvapes
and so many more

Most popular starting models are these minis and their fat-battery more powerful versions

Joye 510 (most common)
DSE901 (a softer hit but tasty)
KR808D-1 (2-piece cartomizer model, aka Vapor King at Vapor4Life)

The fat battery versions include Ego or Riva 510 (510 based), Riva 901 (901 based), Elegant Easy from CigEasy and I think a model from Bloog (KR808D-1 based)

You will notice none of these are the glitzy "name brands" you'll find on the web or at the mall with "testimonials" and "reviews" because many of those are rip-offs. If you buy at one of those sites then do not buy any free trials, don't buy anything anywhere that doesn't sell blank carts or cartomizers, don't buy anywhere that charges more than $18 for a battery or doesn't sell parts at all, don't buy anywhere that claims a cart last as long as a pack of cigs, etc. You may still end up with a good or crappy PV but at least you won't be excessively ripped off.

Puresmoker.com is where i got my first esmoke. They don't ship eliquid to Canada but they have great prices on esmokes. $50 for the eGo starter kit. Still waiting to get my order though so we'll have to see if they did it all good.

Nicfitnation.com is out of B.C. and they ship fast. Not much selection. They sell the eGo for $99 I think, and they sell low res 306 attys which is nice. They ship eliquid and they ship fast.

E Cig Liquid, Electronic Cigarette USA will ship eliquid to Canada and they have a huge selection. There prices are reasonable. They also have sweet flavors like watermelon and Dr. Pepper. Haven't recieved my order yet though. Also if you want to order from Canada you have to order by phone. Very nice though and shipping is cheap ($6).

I just ordered a bunch of VG juice from Liberty-Flights.com. They have a 20% off right now if you click on it on the left top side of page it automatically changes the prices to reflect the 20% off. Shipping was 2.99 for 11 bottles of 5ml juice. I ordered last nite and my order is processed this morning. They also use paypal. My daughter also told me when you check out of a site, check to make sure the address says https. She said this means the site is secure. I also have ordered from litecigusa. Good prices and shipping first class is 2.25.

Great info Dormouse. :)
I don't know why but that claim more than others particularly makes me a little crazy.. I guess after settling the issue with my girlfriend's sister in law. (which makes us nothing! lol)

For my own limited experience, I picked up our first Joyce 510's from Rocky Mountain Vapor. (Tips from the 6 part guide.) After reading it start to finish I succumbed to info overload and went with it's 'easy-guide' recommendations. We went a little overboard with accessories and in hindsite I think they're a little high on price but I think they quality's there. I picked up spare attys and haven't unwrapped 'em yet. (thinking now I should just to test it...)

Our 2nd order was an assortment of juice from Gormet Vapor. Spendy but with the New Years discount a good value and very good quality. I'd consider re-ordering from them even w/o discounts.

Last order was from Liberty Flights. Two mis-ordered Riva 901's due to some confusion on our end. Just spoke to Ty, a very personable fellow. He's confirmed our exchange will ship today.

All three were timely shipped (as well as can be expected with USPS), well wrapped, and arrived in good condition.

My 2 cents. :D
