So, I was out last night and went to the oldest bar in Florida, in Fernandina Beach. Everyone but me was smoking. I vaped. It's the only place I've seen that allows smoking in a long time. I stayed for an hour or so. It was very smoky. When I went to bed I still smelt the cigs, it was terrible. So awful. Even this morning I still smell like I smoked a pack last night. I will avoid smoky bars from now on.

I know what you mean! I went to one down here. The smoke smell was even on things zipped inside my purse. If they would use a good vent system, it wouldn't be so bad. They just open the doors instead. That doesn't help.

One good thing I learned, I wasn't tempted to have a cig! :)

We have a cigar bar down the street from me. It is my favorite place to go at night. I have a cigar and a couple Guinness. I love the smell of the cigarettes and cigars. The best part is sitting by the fireplace watching football or basketball. Food is great too.

I also get asked about my vape.

I miss the ambiance and the friends from my old smokey hangout in Buffalo. The place closed about ten years ago after a forty year run due to, um, increasing diversity in the neighborhood.

The owner was a drummer who played with Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Les Brown, and anyone else who came through Buffalo during the Jazz Age of the late 1940's and 50's. I'm a drummer as well, and spent many nights behind the kit in that place, jamming with some serious old-timers who would happen to wander into town for a visit. :D
Those dudes could play! And they definitely knew how to hoist a drink. Very fond memories indeed, and the smoke in the place helped to create the atmosphere. I don't miss the smoke, but I do miss the atmosphere and the music.

I recently had the experience of walking into a convenience store where the owner was smoking, apparently had been smoking continuously for about 10 yrs. The smell is bad enough, but my god, it burns your eyes something terrible! It reminded me of walking into the girl's bathroom when I first hit high school, having to hold my breath till I was done in there.

Personally, since I remember the anti smoking ANTZ beating up on smokers before there was vaping, I try not to add to the negative comments about smokers, how they smell, etc.

It kinda worries me that some vapers may become as ANTZ- like as some of the smug holier than thou *ex smokers* who quit ---- actually I've kinda already seen shades of that happening. (yes, it's hard to NOT support smoking but still support the smoker, esp. when the smell does bother us now)

But the observation of just how uncomfortable cig smoke can make people surely makes me feel bad, in retrospect, for all the non-smokers who had to sit in offices, restaurants, sporting events, etc with us when we were smoking and before the indoor smoking laws were passed. A lot of times they got a lot of backlash for whining about it.......however, I'm sure it really did make their eyes hurt and their clothes smell.

I was the only smoker in my social circle (and now am the only vaper) but my friends were and still are always very generous-hearted about allowing me to do my thing (within reason). :)

Well I'm still cheesed off on behalf on smokers everywhere, the way they're treated as NON-humans to be marginalized to the point they don't even want to leave home. However, I do find the smell very hard to take, now that I'm not a participant. I always figured non-smokers were a bunch of namby-pamby whiners, but I now understand that they have a valid point about not wanting the smell in their own clothes or hair. So I think it's fine if smokers are not allowed to "do their thing" right in the same enclosed space as non-smokers... but I also feel it's just plain WRONG to force them outdoors into inclement weather; their rights have gotten completely lost in the mad puritan dash to make every place on the planet smoke-free.

I still love the smell honestly. Now everyone thinks I smell like fudge, which makes me far too approachable.

Haha that's too funny I went to a sports bar Sunday with a few friends and a girl walking by just stopped, looked right at me, and then said,"Waffles." We had a really nice conversation after that another bonus to being a vaper. :D

I feel people should be able to do what they want wherever they wish. It is our world. Of course common sense plays into that. If one doesn't like cigarette smoke then move. I do it. If I don't like a way a person looks I avoid them. It could be just because they are short or whatever.

Take my little cigar bar. They put themselves out as a cigar bar with a walk in humidor and Italian food and craft beers that change monthly. There have been negative reviews on the place placed because non-smokers say it stinks like cigarettes and cigars. I keep thinking come on Sherlock do you not realize what you were going into before you went? They do not cater to non-smokers. The owner has even passed out cigars on a couple of nights for us (my sister in law and I love cigars) to try.

First Smoke Free.. Then Salt Free.. Next Soda Free... Possibly processed red meat free next? People need to wake up as someday it will hit them.

I'm too young to remember smoking in pubs (for all you British vapers out there) but I remember seeing this one dude with a mad box mod by the pool table. He set the whole mood. Guns n Roses playing on the jukebox, glasses clinking and this cloud of vapour just lingering so thick that it was like a college smoking shelter. Yet my regular ia just smokers so I stand outside haha

I agree. Here in GA, anyplace which requires you to be at least 18 yrs old just to enter, smoking is permitted. Which means all bars, so I'm glad I don't drink or go to bars anymore. :D

Going to a cigar bar and complaining about the smell of cigars is like going to a rock concert and complaining about the loud music and rowdy people.

Ohhh my god, I MISS going to bars where you can smoke.
In Seattle, they have outlawed smoking in ALL indoor places, though you can smoke at the
Casinos in the Indian Res.
Here in Sweden, there are no places where to smoke indoors.. OK, that's not really true,
we have some bars that have small smoking rooms. I still miss sitting
at a bar, smoking a cigarette.

One word Texas. I haven't been to a bar that you can't smoke at, drawback all the drunks staggering out of the bar have guns in their car.

My brother was across the pond somewhere for a few years. I am not sure exactly where. Is Sweden the place is rains sideways? All I know is he was going crazy because it rained sideways for 5 straight days.

Ohhh yes, it can easily rain sideways for a few days here.

I was carrying an open handbag once and it was raining like crazy... I got home, and the bottom was filled with water... :D
Thankfully, I don't carry my mobile phone in my handbag.
