My alter ego on another forum had a bet with someone about a year or so ago how long it would be before a skeletonized metal REO might come in to existence. Now I have to go dig through old posts to figure out if I won or lost. - I might have lost on the details if not the timing, though. I remember that I sort of envisioned a CNC-ed pumpkin-carving style skeletonization with maybe a procupine cut in to the back... or maybe a grateful dead skeleton or something like that. My mind was on super-custom and not necessarily weight reduction.

This is very cool. I like it.

That is SWEET!!!!!!!
Element77 Asked me if I would make one of these mods normally I dont get into custom orders but because I have wanted to do this myself for some time I gave it a shot .
This makes for a light mod a standard grand weighs 4-1/8 ounces The SL grand weighs 3-3/8 ounces
I will start listing the tumbled SL grands next week . I am milling more to have them black anodized

Looks kinda like a muzzle brake for a Barrett 50....!!
Or....a cage for a PC power supply!!
My only concern with the "open" design.....it could attract dirt/dust/debris, especially if carried in a pocket....
Or....maybe I'm just over-thinking it....
Happy (vaping) Trails!

Very artistic. Venturing into metal sculpturing area.
Not sure how fine tune the CNC is, but wondering if this is possible.
Start with Black anodized full body. router out the exact same pattern as SL holes but only the half (or even 1/3) the thickness of metal. This would expose the shiny raw aluminum under the anodized coating and would achieve the same design effect without having the holes.
Just a thought.

The mods need to be debured and tumbled to remove the sharp edges . Sounds great in theory though

Yes, CNC on full finish would be risky to begin with. How about keeping everything as raw and buff/tumbled after? Would there be enough contrast between the body surface and holes? I really like the design aspect of SL but, like many here, not sure about having all those holes. Trying to visualize the SL with the battery installed. Strong colored battery (like Red or Green) could hamper the design and could end up being too exposed.
