Just curious....I've been looking a bit at the Cyclone (Viscious Ant BF) and wondered how the size compared to the RM3 or Odin? I find the RM3 a royal PITA to build and I do like the Odin but.....it's a bit too airy/cool vape for me. I've tried nearly every configuration on the AFC, but it doesn't help.

I just wondered if the Cyclone is in between these two as far as size and better for mouth to lung vapors that love warm vapes and punch of flavor???

I don't taste any metallic on smaller atties like the RM2 (LOVE that one) and in fact, on larger ones, I find although the vapor increases, the taste diminishes.

what kind of wattage are you vaping the smaller atties at? sounds like the airflow may be to tight for the power level you're vaping, I drill everything to at least 1/16" to start with, less than that and I get a funky taste

Small atties will make any funky goings on very obvious, as they sort of amplify the good, along with the bad if its present, in this case, by the bad, I mean if your coil is a bit too hot for the airflow or something similar.

I think I figured it out and I think turbo and Ian are both on to something.

I didn't think it could be the wattage because all of my smaller atties are set up at 1 ohm and higher. I know my juice is good cause it tastes great with my Odins. My coil placement is good and my wicking material is brand new pieces of rxw. I realized the only thing I've done differently lately is start using some 29g kanthal that I got recently from Temco.

I'm betting that kanthal has something on it and perhaps I'm only picking it up in the smaller atties because of the tight airflow and the smaller chambers amplifying it. I tested my Divo, RM3 and RM2 on three different Reos so far today and they all have that taste with each Reo and each flavor in each Reo. It has to be the kanthal.

When I have more time tomorrow I'll rebuild with the kanthal I was using before I got the new stuff and see if I'm right. I bet I am.

Thank you to everyone who replied, I was really stumped with this. :)

Penny we should meet one day at KPV and try a few things. I mostly use RM2's but have bored them out to 5/64. I have a AFC Cyclone, Patriot, I think maybe you need a larger air hole. I don't notice any metallic taste but them again I don't have a very refined taste buds.

Thank you for the offer Raynman! I think I'm going to go ahead and bore these atties out, I'm really not liking the tighter draw on these small atties now. And I don't haved refined taste buds either, but I know metal when I taste it, not yummy. :glare:

While not an Odin the Patriot is a 22mm RBA. The Cyclone + AFC will have a chamber size between the two. It will still have the two posts close together. Have you tried an RM2?

Thx for the pics!

I have the RM2 and really like the tight draw, warmer vape. I was looking for something similar to it, but maybe a tad larger..but smaller chamber than Odin. In between the RM2 and a odin if that makes sense. If the AFC on the Cyclone can be closed off quite a bit (odin I can't seem to get it closed up enough) that looks like a good sized one.

The Cyclone with afc would seem to solve your goldilocks problem. It's sized right in the middle between the RM2 and the Odin (and easier to build on than the RM3). It's also very versatile, allowing either single or dual coils. Flavour and vapor are good on it, and you can close the afc down to nearly shut just fine. Chowderhead is where I got mine - very satisfied.

I've wondered if the Odin could be closed down by having an insert to put in one of the chambers and using the single coil side. Maybe I should suggest this to Craig.

I have been thinking of this very thing - it would have to be made of nonconductive material (and I've read that craig is against using delrin now) or insulated from the center post, but I think the design of the odin would make it pretty simple to do.

You the man! As usual, thx for your help. Glad to hear the AFC can be closed if I wanted it that way. Even a single coil on the Odin, it still is open on both sides..it's hard to get one side completely closed.

Now...the last question. Who's Chowderhead? LOLOL. I looked all over the Internet for the 2014 version Cyclone AFC and can't find it anywhere. Only found one with what looks like hex screws versus Philips.

Indy vapor shop has it here:
Cyclone Rebuildable Atomizer by Vicious Ant Precision Engineering and Research - Cyclone / Divo & Accessories

I got mine recently from Mountain Oaks Vapors, but I didn't want the AFC (really adds to the cost) - it was a 2014.

I found the stock hole on the cyclone to be ridiculously small, Angi! But I had it drilled out to 1/16 - that's slightly too large for me, but ok. I find it runs extremely hot - much hotter than the RM2 with the same build. My coil is around 0.8, and I had to dump the beautiful Fusion drip tip and replace it with a Delrin drip tip just so I could vape it! It's a very pretty atty, but imo not worth the difference in cost compared to an RM2.
