What have you guys been using? Smallest, size, amps, voltage? To use with a tact switch on a VV mod. P channel because I want my LM2596 board to stay powered up and the trigger switch only power the atty.

in my Logitech G9 box...never did get the touch switch to work properly but worked great with a tact...nice and small, not stupid "I need a microscope" small and can be soldered pretty easily.

smallest ones I have worked with come in the superSOT6 package. They are 1/8 of a inch by a 1/8 inch.( 3mm x3mm). http://www.fairchildsemi.com/products/discrete/pdf/ssot6_dim.pdf With the highest rated amp model being at around 6 amps. The S0-8 package are about twice as big and much easier to hand solder. http://www.irf.com/technical-info/designtp/dt99-3.pdf But i also design and make my own PCB boards although i have seen some folks in here use a so-8 by just soldering wires to it. For sure going to be easier to work with bigger ones like Quigsworth posted but you asked for the smallest.

P-channel or positive channel is used to switch a positive voltage on and off. Applying a Negative voltage to the gate will turn it on. A N-channel or negative channel is the opposite. It switches a negative on and off and requires a positive voltage for the gate.
I use very small and cheap IRLML6402. Only 3 legs to solder.
You can find them everywhere. I bought them on eBay and in local store in Moscow.

Thanks Slimest, just ordered 10. Now a drawing on how to wire it would really be helpful. What wire and resistor to which post. Remember I am just a lowly mechanical engineer and electronically dumb. Don't know what the 160 is in your diagram. I do have the 10k resistors.

The 160 ohm resistor is so the LED doesnt burn out. has nothing to do with the function of the mosfet
But fun soldering those things are pretty small. I often think about getting me one of those Chinese Mail Order brides With the only requirement being she has awesome soldering skillz.

160 means 160 ohm. This resistor depends on led you have and working voltage. More voltage - more resistance. Also different leds need different resistance. You try and if your led is too bright, increase resistance until brightness is acceptable. If you don't have experience, better begin with more resistance and then decrease it.
Well, Java_Az already explained that you can use the button successfully without the led and its resistor - they needed only for indication. Anyway I recommend to solder them - only two simple elements, but much more convenient button, you always see that your system works. You can position a small led near the button and use a clear button tip.
About PCB drawing - sorry, I am absolutely dumb in drawing. I usually make small and simple boards just carving foil with a knife. Hint: first put all elements on PCB, them mark where to carve with thim marker or a needle.

These are imposible to solder, I can hardly see them.. Come on guys give me a workable size, whats the next siize up that can be easily soldered.
