I've trashed my cotton 3x already in 2 days with my new smok alien. I set it down in cup holder or put in pocket, and the wattage changes from 14 to 220. I pick it up and take a hit and get the nasties.

Aside from going in to memory mode and setting 20 different settings to 14.6 watts, has anyone else found a way to stop it changing the wattage on accident?

It's really a pain to be driving on the highway and trash the coil, then have to pull over and burn/rewick the thing.

Um... do you have any ideas as to what's making it change wattage.... is it hitting something in the cupholder, and if it's in your pocket, *turned on* that might not be so good. I'd consider your first solution if it's THAT sensitive, I'd also consider MY solution for your pocket if it's THAT sensitive, would be to turn it off since it's safer anyway? Unless you are saying it switches modes when you turn it on, in which case, your preset idea might be good. Though I'm not sure I'd really trust a high power mod that is doing that in any case, it sounds weird, and the SA, and smok products in general seem to be very finicky and have electronics problems, and often need replacment.

Have you tried troubleshooting by watching a few demo videos and maybe there's something that was programmed into it (not on purpose, accidentally) that's making it switch modes like that?

I'm sorry to not be of more help, I would never buy a Smoke Alien based on what I've read here, so far, but that's just me. It seems to me there are plenty more mods out there that are more reliable. I'm sure others will be along to help you troubleshoot?

Best of luck,

Anna

I wouldn't have bought one either. I was traveling, and I brought two mods with me. I forget to set the extra one upright because I was rushed. When I went over the pass at 7400' it blasted the juice out all over my little Sigelei Spark. When I got to my destination, that Spark was DOA. Now I'm 220 miles from home and only have one mod.

I went to a vape shop, to get a backup unit. All my other dual battery mods had long since died, and the only thing they had was the Alien w/ Baby Beast. So I bought that. I really wanted an IPV8 instead, although everything IPV that I've owned has since died.

In the cup holder, it bounces around and hits the buttons. In my pocket, same thing, although it doesn't fire. It would just be nice if it had a wattage lock. I don't vape at high wattage anyways.

It was nice though to drive home 3.5 hours and not have to charge a mod the whole time. Got home with about 75% battery capacity remaining. That was really nice.

I'm not worried about it blowing up in my pocket because the little coil in there at high wattage will basically melt, ending up with "No coil" message. That happened on the trip also, but I did bring 3 tanks with me. I might just have to make a special "Alien Stand" for the truck. Now that I'm home, it doesn't matter about the pocket thing. I'll just keep the Sig Spark on me while walking/riding around. It never changes any settings in pocket or rocking around in the cup holder.

A side note. After getting home, I disassembled the Spark and cleaned it with tooth paste and distilled water. I rinsed with distilled and set outside to dry for 30 minutes (it's hot outside). It came back to life, tough little buggers.

Sounds like you are having a lot of problems with all your mods, so wouldn't be too quick to place all the blame on one manufacturer.

As easy as it is to lock/unlock the Alien, I would suggest doing that when putting it in a cup holder or pocket. A press of the up/down buttons at the same time does it. Even with bad hands, I can do it quite easily with one thumb...although at times, it may adjust wattage by 0.1.

I just wish they added a wattage lock in the inconsistent menu interface. That would be a really nice feature for a device where the buttons get randomly pressed all the time. I have no problem now, I'm not driving around.

I think the only mod I have that lets me lock wattage is the G-Priv 220. It actually locks the entire touch screen, but is just the press/hold of a button for a couple seconds. I really like that and would be nice on all my mods.
