Just got a smok H-priv and as mainly a SS TC vaper, I'm disappointed with the Tc on this or I have a faulty device. On my r200 I could vape at a set temp where it wouldn't get hotter. If I dry hit it and it was gonna get to hot temp protect kicked in. On this it seems to get hotter and hotter as if in wattage mode then temp protect kicks in and shuts your vape down. I found the stock sc2 coils unusable in temp mode. I'm having a little more success with my diy dual 316L. Anyone else have these issues or is it my device?

I just watched a review for this a few days ago, TC according to the reviewer worked well. They also mentioned new firmware updates.... Have you updated it yet?

Yeah 1.1.0 which I should also put out a warning. Using the upgrade guide on Smoke site bricks the H-priv luckily someone on reddit found a fix, download the nouvoton(sp) update software used for the r200 instead of the Smok software drag and drop the dothex file from the Smok software into the nouvoton directory and use this to update it.

Smok really has an issue when it comes to therwe devices doing TC. I mean, the H-Priv is just a redone X Cube II honestly. Why some people thought Smok made the H-Priv any better than the X Cube II is beyound me. I don't mean to sound negative here but if you actually know about the X Cube II and it's problems then why did you spring for the H-Priv? If you want a device that does TC and does it good then i suggest getting a DNA 200 dmod. Yes, the cost is more but the hardware and firmware or well worth the money. Also the fact of having a future proof device is a huge benefit. Think about this ok. Say you buy 3-4 devices within a year ok. On average you will or should have spent about $200 at least. Hmmm....a DNA200 device is from $115-$200+ depending on which one you choose. I own several devices and a couple DNA200 devices that i just got within the last 2 weeks. Guess where my non-DNA200 devices are? In there packaging in my closet as backups. I have spent a total of $1500 on devices, before my 2 DNA200 mods. Now, i won't need another device for a really long time.

FWIW my smok Treebox will not do SS or Ti in TC worth a hoot. Very inconsistent vape- so much so that I've relegated it to using just Ni200.

OP particularly:

Maybe you got a bad device, i have a TreeBox which ive used with hand rolled ss316 3mm id single coils for the last 7 months straight using tc 100% of the time (no firmware updates on a TreeBox, whatever they did on that they did once, it predates the H-Priv, and it works perffectly), most stable mod i own, next to the DNA200, which i have to tell you honestly hardly gets used...

To make it worse, i donated my first TreeBox to someone in need and missed it so much i bought another, from a completely different supplier, and its as rock stable as the first one....i did not get a magical one the first time.....

Can we stop the Smok bashing now?

Most of the issues with people with ss and tc, is that they do not know how to build a coil to make up for the tcr gotcha when using ss....try building a coil 0.5 or above and things like 316ss work a treat ). No point whining and badmouthing this or that mod without understanding first how tc works and the limitations of some wires....especially 316/317ss. If youre building ridiculously low ohmage dual coil builds with ss below 0.4 and wondering why tc doesnt work well, im afraid its most likely the fact that youre killing it....building with a low tcr wire and expecting something different to happen which wont, because, its a low tcr wire...i hope im making this clear, build higher. It is not nickel or titanium....

Ive actually heard of way more people having issues with tc, especially ss316 on the DNA200, than i have on any Smok mod...just saying....i own both, but i build my coils to compensate for the lower tcr of ss...result: never have issues...

Dont shoot the mod, understand the wire.

I myself plan to source some 430ss when i am able to give the mod a bit of a break on the tcr curve ....dont need to, but id like to try it all the same

I don't know... I have the Xcube II, I Just pulled it out of the box and upgraded from 1.097 to 1.098.... TC worked well before, and it still does. As the previous poster stated, TC with SS works best with a resistance of .5ohms or higher.... That said, I find on the Smok I can go to about .18ohms, and it still works pretty good, but .24 or so had been my sweet spot. Matter of fact, after I did the update, I took my tank off of my DNA200, and compared the vape between the two.....Yeah, the DNA200 is better, but not worlds of better....no ramp up and smoother.....

With the H-priv I have a worse time with a .68 vertical build, a .51 horizontal build than I do with dual coils at .25. The latter are constantly hurtling to temp protect. I can kind of get by, by dropping the wattage to 15 but it's not good having your vape killed. I'm certainly not a Smok basher I love my r200 in Tc using SS. I only own Smok and Innokin devices because I love them.

Hi,

I couldn't disagree with you more because I am also a victim of this SMOK H-Priv and I have a crystal clear proof, just read my case if you care:

I am using the SS notch coil come in the box when I purchase the Augvape Merlin RTA. You could buy a pack of (5 of) these coils in the market quite easily. i.e. you can be sure in my case, it is not a coil making problem.

On SMOK H-Priv with the latest firmware update V1.1.1. (as of this writing, I just visit SMOK support site and confirm this is the latest version being offered), no matter how I adjust the TCR or my preferred temperature, it just won't work correctly. It simply pulses (chop the power) on and off in order to prevent overheat according to my set temperature and this is absolutely WRONG way in temperature control. If I take a long inhale, man... I can feel it, it is like a roller coaster, a short burn follow by an absolute pulse of heating and it repeats...

Without changing anything on my Merlin RTA, I simply unplug it from the SMOK H-PRIV and plug it to my Joyetech Cuboid, guess what? A smooth and warm vape. If it is a coil problem, juice problem, wicking problem or whatever you can imagine and name it, how come my Joyetech Cuboid work flawlessly? Let me emphasize on this, it is exactly the same setup except that I replace the SMOK H-PRIV mod with Joyetech Cuboid and things start to work.

In fact I have tested using 24ga and 26ga SS316L coil which I made on my own with different diameter 3.5mm and 4.0mm, the result are the same. (I am not interested in small diameter coil, so I have not test them.)

I am NOT here to promote Joyetech Cuboid, I just want to point out that, SMOK H-PRIV is incapable of TC on big SS coil (>=3.5mm in diameter) through my own test.

Most importantly, please do not attempt to stop anyone sharing their "user experience" on vape devices, most of the time, they are more trust-worthy than the vape reviewer's.

I have 6 TC devices. The ONLY one that is unable to do TC reliably w/SS is the Smok treestump. It lacks upgradeable firmware to boot. One trick pony, used only for Ni200. And yeah- have tried 304 and 316 at various resistances, to no avail. Did I mention ONE trick pony?

VTC Minis? Works fine for SS/TC. Presa 75? Ditto. Presa 100? Same thing- fine, in fact could not ask for better. SMY SDNA75? Great SS/TC.

If you think that's bashing then so be it. If you think you can keep anyone from honestly reviewing their vape gear just because you happen to not agree, simply put- you can't.

Funny- you whine about "smok bashing", yet you dedicate an entire paragraph in your sig to bash Joyetech. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black... haha!
Well thats because if you knew the full story behind it - condensed: had 2 bad VTC Minis, got ignored by JoyeTech, along with a lot of others, then finally when they took notice of us, they lied to us, then they sent "beta" firmware that was a fraud, told us to buy one of their tanks to "solve" the issue. Deceitful bunch of wankers

So yeah it gets a mention in my sig, because they stand out as the most underhanded bunch of asshats on vaping

Ive had 2 Smok TreeBoxes now, both work perfectly, from day one...no ability to upgrade either...total win

Sure, and I guess every Smok product works perfectly, your two providing a statistical 100% that is written in stone...

Nice trolling, too bad it was confirmed by JoyeTech themselves, oh and about a hundred other people with the same issue

But dont let that get in your way of being heroes in your own lunch hour

Im always surprised (when i shouldnt be) when i see people putting so much effort into being wrong and trying to look superior...its sad

Says the guy w/the paragraph-long sig 'line' trolling Joyetech... and now for added reading pleasure is now trolling AugVape?? ha ha ha
Indeed! And to note, I am myself not (nor do you seem) particularly invested in either defending Joyetech or critiquing Smok/Koopor. Seems someone has misunderstood what trolling means...
