Im sure they can't do any worse then what evolv did with their first couple runs of the dna 40. I've already had 2 of the dna 40 boards sent back to evolv and the third went on me a couple weeks ago. Considering the m80 costs the same if not less then just the dna 40 board I don't see any down side at all. smok may not knock it out of the park every time but they have had so good ones in their time.

I don't think they mean the batteries aren't removeable. It says in the description that it uses 2 18650 batteries. I read it to mean they ship it with 2 batts installed (but who knows) I have an M50 and you unscrew all 4 of the screws on the bottom plate, to remove the bottom plate to get to the batteries. I'm pretty sure that's how this one would be.

I don't get the point of sending 2 boards back but still buying a third.. It clearly doesn't work reliable yet. I don't like the way companies release unfinished products..

Verstuurd van mijn SM-T700

To be perfectly honest I no longer see the point either. I let the hype and all the people telling me my poor experience with the boards while they worked was user error and it got the better of me. Evolv was extremely quick with replacing my first board and I have kicks and dna 20's that still work flawlessly. I was in denial that evolv could drop the ball they way they did. Trust me, I learned my lesson. Lol. Im fighting the urge to buy this one till I see some feed back for it but the price is so good it's getting harder and harder. I will be getting the temp control sx mini though. I don't see yihi suffering from the same issues.

Besides the Iipo batts, I'm not really trusting this temp control board until I see positive reviews maybe 3 months down the line. And yeah, really don't trust Smok at this point.

The big thing is that it's only 50 bucks. Evolv boards are failing left and right and people are paying 2-300 for those.

They are soldered in.

Subject: Smok Xpro M80 plus question
Hi, I was wondering whether it is possible to remove the batteries or if they are soldered in on the m80 plus.
Thanks,
-Alex

Not looking good so far on the temp-protection: (Props to dravell for this initial review)

Okay..where to start...

The Smok M80 Plus is an 80 watt box mod with a 12v output, 4000mah (or 4400, both are advertised) internal LiPo battery, "Temperature control" from 200-900F, 0.1ohm limit and on board 2 amp charger with passthrough.

In hand

I was surprised how small it actually is, for a 4000mah (or 4400?) in series box with 80 watts, it is MUCH smaller than something like say the Sigelei 100w. It fits the hand well and is extremely pocketable which makes for a good travel setup for those looking for fairly high wattage and great battery life. It doesnt feel cheap and the buttons are decent albeit with slight rattle (the firing button can be replaced with an included rubber switch). The 510 is spring loaded and all attys I have tried screwed on with no issues, some with very minor gap.

Features and performance

The menu is very easy and quick to navigate, toggling between the three modes (Wattage, Mech, Temperature), Puff plan, Temperature settings and on/off. I have tried a number of different attys and builds and the output is certainly on point which is great news as those who bought the M65 reported it firing weak. It performs great at a legitimate 80 watts which is my preferred wattage on drippers and the Arctic tank. Battery life is stellar for such a small device at this wattage which is one of it's best features. It does offer 2 amp charging so waiting forever between charges is not an issue. If you wish to vape while charging, it offers that as well which the lower wattage models left out.

I built a single .12ohm Ni200 coil on a Kayfun to test it's temperature control. From what I've been able to see, it does not work very well. There is no atomizer setup like the DNA, so no reading new coils and such, you just set the temperature and put it on Temp mode. Even at 200F it was burning cotton despite attempting to regulate. The temperature does climb with resistance changes of the Nickel and does regulate when "reaching" the set temperature however it is clearly much hotter than it's claiming. I have only tried this one build on it, but I have seen a couple reports of similar performance so my hopes are not high that the temperature control works well on this device. Others have claimed their's works fine though so whether it's all of them or just a few is to be seen.

Overall, despite TC not really working, IMO it is a great little device for a cheap price. Right now for $50-55, getting 80 watts in a very small form factor while retaining dual batteries is still a deal to me. Obviously I would prefer a working temperature control and it will be a major turnoff and a deciding factor for some, but for others who want a small lightweight box that is extremely capable, it is still a great choice. For just a few bucks more than a iStick 50w you get a lot more bang for your buck.

I will continue to attempt to get the TC working halfway decent before writing it off as non functional, I will update this with different builds I try and results.

I have read of other similar reports... Folks who are wanting to purchase this device for it's temp-protection feature would be better off waiting for other reviews to confirm one way or the other IMO...

I just picked one of these up at my local B&M, and so far so good! Battery life is amazing so far.
I currently have the nautilus with temp sensing .3ohm heads and the flavour and vapor production is on point!

Need to test it out for a couple more days before i have a final verdict but so far so good. i also picked up so ni200 wire so i can build a couple of my tanks and drippers.

Cheers,
Rob

The temp control calibration might be off. In the review the guy mention it goes from 200-900 degrees Fahrenheit. Right there it doesn't make sense... 900 degrees would burn any juice out there. So most people are setting it to 450 degrees thinking it is accurate but in reality it is way less and not producing any vapor. People who have this device in hand need to do a cotton test and see if the device temp control is accurate. If indeed it is accurate then try upping the wattage to 80w and see if that makes a difference. If it is inaccurate then obviously you would set the temp higher than what you would with an evolve chip.

Now another thing that I heard early on when this device was just being promoted is that it designed to do temp control with Kanthal. So again do the cotton test with Kantal coil instead of Nickel and see if that is the case. If this device can do temp control with Kanthal then Evolve is in trouble.

Evolv is certainly not in trouble, it's supposed to work with ni200 - which it isn't doing.
Apparently the 5-7 ramp up time happens with all of them or it's just not working at all, Smok fail - what a shocker.

Yeah, Smok seems to be blowing smoke. Evolv is safe until the yihi chip drops.
