RPM restyling of the species:
Smok is also very active in the "Aio Starter Kit" sector and in addition to presenting completely new devices in terms of style and design, it often places on the market continuous evolutions of previous products (as in this case). So for Smok RPM4 we are absolutely talking about a pure and simple restyling exercise.

RPM4 is the natural evolution of the original RPM40 project subsequently improved with the introduction of the RPM2 device which boasted a system with adjustable AFC, different coils and specific pods.

The first sensations when handling the new RPM4 are those of a more refined device in terms of materials and appearance but which does not upset the original principle of some technical solutions of the RPM line such as; the side refill or the flattened spout. These solutions in other new and non-restyled models from Smok, have been extensively revised and improved and in some cases have indicated the way forward for several manufacturers of competing brands.

Smok RPM 4 Feeling:
The form factor and the compactness of the RPM4 as anticipated closely resembles that of the progenitor RPM40 but is much lighter than other interpretations such as the RPM2 or the RPM 80. The Mod RPM4 is largely made with several layers of overlapping rubber, this process make RPM4 resistant to scratches and bumps, as well as rather light and gratifying to handle thanks to the "engraveds" surface and with rubber-like paint. The sensation of solidity that is felt by holding it in the hand is due to the presence of details of the aluminum alloy frame that strengthen the structure.

Smok RPM 4 front / back view:
The Mod features the branding at the top, while the control keys and display are contained in an elegant raised plate, screwed to the mod via 4 French screws. The 0.96 "color display during use shows the following information; graphic level of battery charge, percentage (%) of battery charge, set power, lock / unlock symbol (padlock) resistive value of the coil, Volt, puff counter and duration of the last puff. The adjustment buttons (Fire, Up and Down) are metallic, slightly protruding and sufficiently precise.

On the back of the Mod there is the AFC slider adjustment that acts on a two-way lateral system. The adjustment with the protruding pin is quite hard to move, a symptom of good assembly precision. The information on the metal side member consists of the vertical writing "RPM 4" and information on the capacity of the internal battery (1650mAh).

Here it is possible to observe the two air passage slots which are opposite and completely adjustable. The two full opening slots allow the device to be used in RDL / DL mode and measure 6x3mm each.

Smok RPM 4 top / bottom view:
The compartment / pod is made up of an element of plastic material fixed to the mod by 4 screws, houses the air passage slots and incorporates the AFC system with external adjustment, the coupling system with the Pod is precise and solid even without the use of classic magnets. On the bottom of the hole there are gold-plated contact two pins.

On the bottom with metal base of RPM 4 you will find; four fixing screws, the safety holes for venting the internal cell, the writing "Designed By Smok", the Type-C charging socket, the logo and the C E brand.

Smok RPM 4 Pod System:
The device is equipped with two different cartridges, one for the classic RPM coils and the other is used to house two new types of Smok resistors. Both RPM and LP2 cartridges can hold up to 5ml of e-liquid and boast the same type of side refill protected by the classic silicone rubber pad.

Smok RPM 4 LP2 coil series:
Currently there are only two types of LP2 coils available, one is optional and the other the 0.23Ω DL LP2 Meshed Coil is pre-installed on the respective LP2 cartridge supplied in the kit.
In practice LP2 Coil would guarantee better protection against e-liquid leaks thanks to an additional silicone ring that guarantees an additional seal on the reshaped bottom of the cartridge.

Smok RPM 4 range Coil LP2 and RPM + RBA:

Using the RPM 4 device:
• Power on power off: 5 clicks on the Fire button
• Power setting: Press the "+" or "-" keys to adjust from 5W to 60W with 1W increment / decrement at a time
• Fire button lock / unlock: Press the Fire button 3 times
• Clear Puff: Press the Fire and Down buttons together then select Yes or No and confirm with the Fire button.
• Changing the Theme Color: Press the Fire and "+" keys at the same time

Screen protections and notifications:
• Battery Low: The battery voltage is less than 3.3 ± 0.1V. During the vape the voltage is less than 2.8 ± 0.1V.
• Ohms Too Low: Resistance is less than 0.2Ω ± 5%.
• Ohms Too High: Resistance is greater than 2.5 ± 5%.
• No Atomizer: The atomizer was not detected.
• Atomizer Short: A short circuit has been detected.
• PCBA Too Hot: Overheating protection.
• TIME OVER: The single Puff exceeds 8 seconds.

Final conclusions:
This device from Smok has excellent characteristics of use in RDL both with the new 0.23Ω Mesh-Coil LP2 and with the super-tested RPM Mesh-Coil from 0.4Ω.
In the face of greater energy expenditure the new resistance LP2 guarantees for the same wattage (25W is the best wattage for both) a better aromatic yield, a denser vapor and less condensation. The RPM coils were already a good reliable product in this respect. But Smok seems to be constantly looking for new solutions for an increasingly "clean" and profitable vape, good news for us vaper's!

The RPM 4 device works well, discreetly manages the charge of its 1650mAh battery and at 25W it is possible to make an excellent number of puffs before having to recharge. The screen has nice background colors and the information it reports overall reads well. It would have been interesting to evaluate the tactile feeling of the "Leather" version which I imagine is even more pleasant and elegant to handle. The brown Leather version is really beautiful in my view.

At the beginning of the review I introduced RPM 4 explaining the Smok philosophy which is to carry out two different lines of products; innovative design or simple restyling. So it's no wonder that a new product like this seems to have "backtracked" especially when compared to an "advanced" device like the fantastic Morph Pod-40.
If you don't know Smok's Morph Pod-40 I suggest you look at some reviews. However, considering the history of the RPM product and its evolution, the new version "4" is certainly a successful restyling with excellent performance.
