I am happy to say I am off the analogs for over 1 month. I have accomplished this using an ego battery, dual coil cartos and RY4 juices. Obviously this is working great for me. I heard about things called "mods" which appear to be more expensive than the hardware I'm using now. My question is, what are the advantages of mods over the hardware I'm using now?

Mods, or modifications, are any device which holds a larger battery and provides electricity to an atomizer.

There are a couple of advantages to using a mod, but the one advantage that EVERY mod has over your eGo is a larger battery.

Most mods can last all day on a single charge, so you don't need to constantly change batteries.

Some mods also provide higher voltage, and/or variable voltage, so that you can get a warmer vap, or a stronger vap by using voltage generally from 3.0-6.0 volts.

Variable Voltage devices are wonderful, in my opinion! You can get them inexpensive (I use a great, plastic box variable voltage mod with voltage indicator, which I purchased from MadVapes.com), or you can get custom ones which are more expensive.

They generally are broken down into box mods, and tube mods.

For an inexpensive introduction to "mods", and Variable Voltage, I'd suggest you check out MadVapes Variable Voltage mod with indicator. They go for about $43, when they're in stock. They sell out very quickly!

(You can see an example of a custom, wood box mod if you look at my avatar right below my name)

Good luck, and keep on vapping!

If you're interested in mods, one thing you might consider is an Ego Booster. it attaches on top on an Ego battery, but allows varied voltage up to 4.7v. I just got one for my egos so I could use Dual Coil Cartomizers.

I guess what I'm really asking is, seeing that Mods are more expensive up front, will it save me money in the long run. That is, will I still have to buy cartomizers like I do now? Will the batteries last longer? (The batteries I have now have lasted over 6 months and are still working.)

The equipment I'm using is working great for me. Just wondering if purchasing a Mod could save some money.

Thanks
Alan

Just to be clear: Not ALL mods have bigger batteries than you eGo. If battery life is a big deal to you, don't even bother looking at mods that take 10440, 14500, 14250, 15270, 16340 or even 18350 batteries. Some eGos have, what, 1100mAh? Out of the batteries I've mentioned, some 18350's and 14500's are close at 900mAh (even the 18350's that claim 1200mAh are truly 900mAh). If battery life is a real want/need, go 18650 mod. And do your research on the safest mods and batteries to use. There are so many to choose from. Fixed voltage, adjustable voltage, variable voltage, ones that use stacked batteries, ones that use parallel batteries, ones that use a single battery...etc...That being said...

When your eGo batteries DO have to be replaced, they'll cost you, what? $15 or more each to do so? Some mod batteries cost the same, some are less expensive (generally lower mAh or lower quality batteries, lower price). You've gotten 6 months so far from your eGo batteries, that's awesome! Many find they need to be replaced around the 3 month mark. Yes, you'll still have to buy cartomizers...unless you go all out and get yourself a Genisis type mod...where you rebuild the atomizer yourself for a VERY low cost each time you have to do it. The inital price for such a mod will not be cheap...however...myself, I spend at least $20 a month on cartos, that's $240 a year. Then I need several 1.5ohm atomizers for my bottomfeeder mod, that's at least another $50 a year. I can get an awesome Genisis type mod for $240 (plus shipping) that comes with enough wick and wire to make attys for roughly a year, then buy enough to do it again for a year for $13 plus shipping. So, inital cost...$240, plus at least two AW 18650 $26 (I have a charger already) $266 plus shipping. Still less than what I pay for years worth of cartos and atomizers. And I can rebuild the atomiser for around $13 a year from then on. So for me, worth it. For you...I'm not sure.
