I must be out of touch because I haven't run accross any cigarettes that are flavored. Maybe some pipe tobacco and e-cig juice but not cigarettes. I must need enlightenment.

Here is the crusade that will attract ASH:

Looks like it's right down their alley.

Kevin

Kretek cigarettes like Djarum Blacks/Specials aka clove cigarettes are considered flavored cigarettes and no longer legal.

Camel has several flavored cigarettes and menthol cigarettes are considered to be a mint flavor. Many cigars and pipe tobacco also have fruit flavoring. I am not sure if this will encompass smokeless tobacco but if it does companies like Skoal will be put right out of business. Also if ecigs are classified as a tobacco product then we will all need to brush up on our DIY mixing skills. This will certainly give the FDA more strength and does not look good for us.

It looks like a very broad definition and plenty of wiggle room for the FDA.

Don't be silly, Kevin. Of course cigarettes have always come in yummy flavors. Don't you know that's what got us all hooked as kids?

Just as ludicrous, I saw mention of some research that claims it is not peer pressure, but those crafy cigarette ads that get kids hooked. Speaking for myself, it was peer pressure. And there was a heck of a lot more advertising when I started smoking, but that would never have convinced me to give it a try.

For me too. I could blame it all on my cousin. It's all his fault, but my Father smoked too which is another form of peer pressure. I may date myself but when I was young, everyone smoked! It was the cool thing to do.

I started smoking because of... a girl. Imagine that! Sheesh - I just can't get over what BS this country is coming to. Mark my words - history will record some point in the 90's as the beginning of the downfall of the USA. This is just ridiculous and just a tiny symptom of the gigantic problem running through our country. I never thought I'd see these times and I'm truly concerned for my Nephew's generation :\

It's the "other tobacco products" that will be interesting here. Yes, clove cigarettes are biting the dust, much to the chagrin of Indian businesses that sold them to Americans. Yes, all other flavored cigarettes are history. But apparently there will be no change applied to little cigars, cigars, pipe tobacco, smokeless and snuff.

Interesting, because they're all flavored. I bought some Chocolate Phillies Blunts yesterday for an experiment. They also come in mango, banana, pineapple, melon, etc. flavors. Kids love blunts! Dean's 'lil' Cigars were my brand of choice before I quit inhaling smoke. They have cherry, vanilla, chocolate and more.

In fact, I did my first YouTube video today about using cigars to decrease the cost of smoking for those still taking cigarette breaks. YouTube - Spend less on your tobacco habit

Hey, I use everything containing nicotine. Only taboo is inhaling the killer smoke!

I agree with you 100%!! All the FDA is doing is creating another black market. If e-cigs become illegal to sell, then people will just buy individually from China. I want to see the FDA try to stop hundreds of thousands of small packages! Yeah right!! As far as them banning the flavored cigarettes including the mini cigars is so stupid! Most people smoke those cigars on social occasions only. So now I bet those same people will now turn to regulr cigarettes on social occasions and we all now where that leads!! It is so obvious that the FDA's interests are purely monetary and political an don't give a rats ... as to the true safety of consumers. What a joke! So they are just opening more black markets with many products. I feel bad for all those people who invested tens of thousands of dollars in opening hookah lounges. Hookah will also be wiped off the market!

And that is exactly what is happening. The black market is already forming. It's really going to take more than one judges ruling to get rid of these things in the US.

I mean look at Austrailia. They're banned there and yet they manage to get their stuff. If there is a market for something, somebody will find a way to get it to you.

Wow, that is pretty cool Bob. If I ever need to go back to "smoking", that looks like it will come in quite handy.

But isn't it a bit harsh to inhale cigar smoke? I could never do it.

Ah ha! I saw this posted comment on some dinky news article damning E-Cigs and I thought it was funny to share:

"Now now people... these things should totally be banned. Even though I don't let my kid walk around with 150 dollars to buy these, as a parent I just don't want to deal with the responsibility of raising a child and I think the state does a better job at that. Speaking of which... we should think of the states more and stop being so selfish. They are losing tons of tax revenue as smokers switch over. Plus, hospitals and insurance companies are losing money too since less people are getting lung cancer, thus less people to raise premiums. And of course the pharmaceutical industry is getting absolutely no cut in any of this. And we all know smokers are generally take more risks and are more likely to be rebels... what better way to deal with them than to let them all die off? And I'll be darned if I'm going to let smokers beat all the hard work put in by anti-smoking associations now that smokers can 'have their cake and eat it to." So I'm gonna have to side with the FDA on this one since my comments above are 100% in-line with their views."

Wow! I never really thought about doing something like packing a pipe with a cigar; that's ingenious ;). It's definitely fascinating though that there's this large crusade to ban flavored cigarettes (not necessarily flavored tobacco) under the guise that it's enticing to children.

I could legitimately understand and possibly even get behind a 'sin' tax of sorts (though I hate taxes) but enacting it under the premise that it will decrease the number of children that start smoking is just a slap in the face. I mean, even if some kids *do* get started on flavored tobaccos (unlikely) the majority of them get started due to peer pressure. I know it, you know it, everyone knows it. As you pointed out there are still flavored tobacco products, and call me crazy but aren't a lot of popular alcoholic beverages mixed drinks? Should we ban wine coolers and hard lemonades because they're 'CLEARLY' targeting kids? Pure rubbish I say.

I'll admit, I started on Djarum Blacks, but I did so because of a girl, and because everyone in my theatre company smoked as did many of my friends. Peer pressure is what gets people to smoke; not flavors.
