I strongly agree with the idea asking SJ to replace the current "connect to facebook" message with one asking people to join The Alliance, CASAA, etc.

Many people on the forum are just unaware of the importance of the fight we are in and the fact that regardless of how the impending ruling goes, the fight will be far from over.

There are a zillion posts on this forum complaining about our government. People in a democracy get the government they deserve. Quit complaining and do something constructive.

Personally, I'm game for being a warm body for anything going in in Balto-DC Metroplex. As others have stated, I wasn't even aware of such an effort.

Hell if/when CASAA sets up office, it pretty much *has* to be in the DC Area anyway to make sure whenever the words 'tobacco' and 'Harm Reduction' are spoken someone is there on the behalf of *consumers* who feel their lives have been positively effected by these products, their rights as (former?) members of the THE most persecuted minority in America aren't being trampled on and as another voice against Big tobacco and their Oh-So-Good-For-Ya cigarette product :)

I got *no* problem grouping with like-minded individuals vaping away on the Mall handing out info cards. Just ask :)

Does anyone have a link for this message? I can't find it and would be more than happy to join.

We live in a Federal Republic in the US of A, specifically crafted to NOT be a democracy to avoid the dangers of an over-abusive Majority ;) Large groups of passionate people as a whole trend towards being easy to manipulate and exceedingly stupid :)

(not that we've seen anything like that in *recent* history, what with the near-instant availability of tomes and tomes of knowledge to aid the common man in making intelligent, informed choices. Oh wait...)

If we lived in a democracy, when we smoked we'd likely be targeted to be shot on sight. Mob rule sucks...at least we have the LACK of this going in our favor :)

Quit complaining and do something constructive.

I think this will come sooner than later, lotus.

This is so true. We have with our voting action or inaction created the government we are living under. Like Democracy, a Republic can be subverted by the mass organization of one group. The only way to reverse the condition is to do the same thing that got us where we are today. We will have to awaken the sleeping giant and fight for what is right.

Sounds kind of radical but true.

Indeed. I always put integrity above the law. Yeah, sometimes this gets me in trouble;), and mind you I am not advocating the behavior, but it is a worthy cause. An example of this would be possession of marijuana. Many people use it for medicinal purposes, ie; cancer, chronic pain. Should these people be prosecuted in states that outlaw this personal use? I don't think so.

I do not understand this argument - not that I am all that concerned one way or the other about marijuana, but I have epilepsy... at one time in my life when it was very chronic, I had a card I carried on my person. It allowed me to order it from a place in texas, and use it via a HUGE weird vaporizing type of machine actually (how ironic come to think of it). The card was for the sole purpose of if for any reason I needed to transport it to and from the post office or 'emergency use'.

I never did put the card to use because at the time I was still living at home, and my family was all 'OMG!! DRUGS?!?! NO WAY!!!' and therefore I was as well. I don't regret it either as I came through just fine in the end. But the point is that I hear about this outlawing of even medical use, but from what my neurologists told me at the time - that card took care of any situation that might arise... ??

Take care,
- Hap

We might have more people sign up if somewhere on the forum, possibly at the top, there was a link for everyone to click o n and give thier info. That post was so long ago, I'm sure there are hundreds if not thousands of the forum users who don't know they can still sign. Just a suggestion:sleep:
Your right. I did not know I could still sign. I would be glad to. Just let me know where.

Just want to point out that the Alliance exists solely as a brief and a list of real people supporting that brief. That is all it ever was and ever will be. CASAA and RtV are (presumably) long-term organizations with ongoing advocacy efforts. Please do add your name to the Alliance, but consider getting involved at one of those two groups as well.

If you're a supplier, look into ECA. LaceyUnderall could help you there.

Iman,

I too was confused as to the reason I gave my name and contact info, but figured the more people, possibly maybe, some more weight could be placed on that motion by the judge. I still don't know if that is true. What has your legal council advised? If they say the more who join to support the motion will help any measurable way, I say let's GET THE WORD OUT. I believe MANY others share my confusion on how important it is to add names in support of the amicus brief. Can you find out for us? Or if you know, please do TELL US! :D Thanks..

Taken care of Tin Cup, thanks!

Webtaxman - the real importance comes if the Judge requests to know who this "Alliance of Electronic Smokers" actually is. If a list of five real people is handed to him, OK, but if a list of a thousand lands on his desk, each with full contact information, the brief carries a lot more weight. Think of it as a petition if that helps.

A lawyer (yvilla?) can correct me if I'm wrong on that count.

Yup. I missed it too. I have threads bookmarked that I tend to come back to but do not browse much anymore...just too much to go through. I agree with the thought of replacing the Facebook link with the Amicus signup. Something prominent would help tremendously.

Edit: Illustrated Man - I just sent you a PM with my info.
