I also forgot to mention: these last less than a day in my tank. It's ridiculous and maddening.

Chell, I don't use these in a tank, but methinks you need to be speaking with Toronto_Mike to figure out what you may be doing different. 4 days in a tank sounds like a more realistic number for these.

I'm punching with a saddle valve, have tried 1 and 2 holes, large and small. It gets to be so that the draw is a bit tight, very little vapor production, and it gurgles and spits hot juice at me. No leaking though. If I stick a pin down the middle and jiggle a bit I get a couple good hauls then back to bad.

I start with 2 holes (1/4" saddle) at the very bottom for the 1st fill. I noticed some dry hits with just 2 small punch holes so , I added 2 more holes before the 2'nd fill. It's been great since. The only flooding I noticed was from overfilling. Other than that it's been good for 5 days. This should be it as I've notice muted taste on most puffs.

The only other issue, maybe the taste is from burnt plastic? My tank is glass with stainless steel.

Chell, what you have described sounds like a classic case of flooding. Once it's flooded for a while, the centre tube gets soft and collapses in on itself. It's the nature of the beast. You are getting too much juice into the carto.

Are you sure you are not puncturing the middle tube Chelly? I have done that in the past and get the same results you are describing.......I just slot them now with the dremel i found in the closet wooooo! :p

I tried slotting but each time, the juice ended up tasting of burnt ground metal.....the way the carto smells immediately after slotting.....Does that not happen to you?

I'm with KF on this one. I tried slotting my cartos once and all I could taste was a "metallic" taste. Ever since then I've been punching my cartos and never a problem with them. Hell, I've a carto in one of my tanks that is going on 4 weeks use and it's still performing like a champ! Can't ask for more than that from a carto!

I think this has a lot to do with quality, and SmokTech's QC has been really dire of late. I had one of theirs last me nearly three weeks in a tank and it was performing amazingly. On the other hand my latest shipment of 1.5 duals are lasting me about 5 days. I had a few 2.8ohm DCT duals that didn't have tight enough packing leak without any modification to the existing tiny hole, and another (from the same pack) was packed too tight and wouldn't suck liquid out of the tank without doing deep primer puffs. I got a pack of 2.7ohm single coils, filled one (didn't even slot it -- accidentally forgot that step) and not even two hours later got a nasty dry hit. Slotted it, that helped, but started getting more of that burnt taste later on.

SMK really, really needs to get off their asses and step their game up again, because they're slipping big time.

The first 2.7 I tried worked great, tasted great. Just used it as a regular carto for about 4-5 days. Not bad. I will need to compare it to the boge 3 ohms later for life expectancy.
But the 1.7s vs boge 2ohms are night and day difference for me.
3-4 days vs at least a week.
Burnt taste on long hauls vs smooth consistent vape

I've still got another 10 or so to go through before I'm done with them but I'm kinda hesitant on getting them again as so far only 1/5 has worked well right from the start

Day 5 with the 1.7 single coil - has muted taste with most puffs. Not a flood, gurlgle or dry hit to date. I'm still impressed. As soon as the tank empties - I'm going to replace it with a new one. 5 days with the same carto - $1.40/5 - less than 30c / day - that's pretty good value.

Why wait to replace it. If your end caps stay put (have the lip over the edge like the smoktech tanks) just use your new carto to push the old carto out. Replaced just that easily.

You can thank Phil Busardo for that trick. Watch his review on the mini sub tank for further explanation if needed.
