That was SJ's response when I asked him how the 250 units would be announced. He also stated elsewhere that the entries for that closes tonight as well.

Kinda does not make sense. The smok webpage says the contests is from 8/24 to 9/16

I could be wrong on this one, but I do believe that some adjustments can be done ONLY via the app?
Could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain that some review mentioned that TCR and other more advanced things require the app?
That was true of the first version (I think the presets had to be done through the app), but I believe they fixed it for this second one. Everything supposedly can be done without the phone app now, but some things are probably still easier from the app.

I know what you mean but thats what smokey joe told us several hours ago. Also when i look at the smok site now it doesnt show a date range anymore for the contest. Maybe 9/16 was a typo

I suspect that you can download the complete Android SDK and emulate a phone on top of your OS. Also, I do believe that VirtualBox had the option to have android installed. Not sure if you'll get through to Google Play though. Might need to look for the actual .apk of the App.
I had though of that, the iPhone emulator in xCode could interface with bt, interesting. lets see once the x2 gets here what trouble we can get into

They really need to do something about their English translation:

"SMOK funs in the worldwide could do communications with each other and the most important thing is that you can feedback your thoughts and sugguestions to SMOK directly."
hahaha at least they didn't try to sneak in some hip slang this time.
Congrats on the win, Count!

Shouldn't be an issue? Windows, afaik, is only needed if you want to use their software suite... No?

by using their software is how you upgrade firmware I believe, but I will look into this when I get it, and play wit it. I have wine installed so i may be able to use the sofware in that to upgrade the firmware, not sure about that yet either... :) fun times ahead I will let you know

It's a lot easier to customize color from the app than the device itself. That's about the only real benefit I've noticed on my buddies

You haven't lived until if you weren't a teenager downloading some racy text-graphics from a BBS at 300 baud.

Well, I was a 28 yr old mom downloading those racy graphics ("marital aids"), but at 2400 bps. :D

Right behind you...

You'll need it if you want to upgrade firmware. All the devices currently in stock anywhere usually have firmware version 1.06, latest version is 1.09, and they've made some significant improvements.
