I seen people talking about Books and eBooks but I can't find the post now :(

But anyways my son got into Penn State and I had to buy some of his books, which by the way,
OMG THE PRICES OF SOME OF THE BOOKS
thud.gif

But what really shocked me was the eBooks weren't much cheaper :?:
This don't make much sense to me why a eBook would be so expensive.
And some of them, even after you bought them, you had to have a subscription to a website that would run out,
and then they would shut the book off

To confusing for me  I went with the good old hard cover books
When I was going to college 30 years ago, $300 could buy all my textbooks for the entire semester, 5 or 6 classes.....and these were brand new books. Yesterday I spent $400 on just two textbooks for my son.....and they were used copies.

I got an i5, dual core, virtual quad-core, touch-screen laptop, with 16gb RAM, for $500 -- the laptop itself was only about $350, but $130 for the RAM upgrade and installation -- no way I can install RAM in a laptop! -- and some other stuff, so it came to about $500 total.

Currently operating on either a Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, or an HP Pavilion 17.3" laptop, AMD A8 quad core, with 8 GB RAM, 750 GB internal HDD, 1 TB external HDD, DVDRW, Logitech wireless mouse and trackpad. Think I spent $350 two years ago...

I posted this late night last night or real early this morning, depending where you live :)
But since peoples talking about computers, I want to post it again ;)

This is why you should never hit a Computer :sneaky:

Looks like just a monitor to me -- and i once actually got 6 more months out of a failing CRT monitor, by smacking it silly. Guess it knocked some of the cigarette tar off the electron guns. :D

My only rationalization is that i really don't need one,as i have almost completely switched to bottom feeders, but that doesn't help either,i still want one haha(said while stomping my feet like a little spoiled kid haha).

Aw Fringe, the cool kids are RENTING books now! :thumb: Which makes so much sense, cuz really, what are you gonna do with the books after the class is over?
I did rent some, but then he was told that he needed some kind of eText with Access Card Package
So I had to return the rented ones and buy the books that came with the access card thingy

First PC or first computer.

PC was a Compaq luggable XT at 8 Mhz with DOS 3.1, 640 K RAM, 5.25 double sided FDD, and a 10 MB HDD... 9 inch mono green screen.

First computer, Time Sinclair.

First REAL machine, home built 386SX33 with 4 MB RAM, 250 MB HDD, 1.44 MB 3.5 inch FDD, 14400 VFD modem, 14 inch 640 x 480 VGA, Sound Blaster, 24 pin color dot matrix printer.
My first pc was an XT also and I had that thing for a long time before I got a 386. I hated the dip switches...and figuring out all the compatibility issues. I taught myself dos and went from there....my friends and hubby thought I was nuts because I spent so much time on that darn thing....who would have thought back then that you would carry the Internet in the palm of your hand on your wireless phone!!

Been trying to figure out what is going on with this thread since the winners were announced. And I see the count did not go all the way to the 50 I thought were to be chosen. Can someone enlighten me?

7 more to be drawn sometime today/tonite.

Renting isn't much cheaper. My son's calculus text book was over $300 brand new, and renting it would have been $220 (at the school bookstore). Found a used copy on Amazon for $240. He's planning on taking calc 2 next semester, and they're using the same book, so it just makes sense to buy rather than rent and have to rent it again next semester.

Well.. there are 6 more chances, and from what smokeyjoe said about later today, I have a feeling they will be contests as he said he will tell you all what to do in order to win one of the last 6..

so I am guessing it may well be trivia or something for the last ones.. but I don't know for certain.. what he said did not convey another ollie visit of randomness though.. so it is just what I am thinking..

It's such a scam, because next year you will go try and sell back the books from the year before, and they will say they have a "New edition" and offer you pennies on the dollar for the old books.

It's a scam. I bet the teacher has a hookup with the author or publishing company. :grr:
